Art Report

In Art this term, all of our students have been making artworks with the overarching theme of ‘Birds.’  This topic has linked nicely with our whole school integrated studies topic of Biodiversity. All of our classes started the term making and putting the finishing touches on their secret Mother’s Day project. We really hope you liked their beautiful bouquets of flowers!

Prep

Our prep students are continuing to build their fine motor skills and have created several painted and collaged pieces. They have also learnt about primary colours and have enjoyed experimenting with them to create secondary colours to use in their artworks.

Year 1/2

Our Year 1/2 students have started the term learning about papier mâché. The have spent several weeks working on creating some papier mâché birds in nests. They have also created some colourful emu artworks using both oil and soft pastels. As we move toward the second half of the term they will be exploring the work of the Australian contemporary artist Anna Blatman.

Year 3/4

Our 3/4 classes started this term working on a painted collaged piece of a Honeyeater based on the work of the Australian artist Fiona Wilke. They have also started making some Abstract Birds using bottles and modroc. These are still a work in progress, and we can’t wait to see how our students decorate them. They have been highly engaged in this project. Stay tuned for some amazing sculptures.

Year 5/6

Our 5/6 artists started the term off strong creating an oil pastel Magpie on a painted background. A selection of these is currently in the Admin Building and make for a wonderful display. The students are now challenging themselves to create a sculpture of an Australian Bird of their choice. The students are at the armature building phase of this project and are using a range of recycled materials like plastic milk bottles, water bottles, cardboard, and newspaper to construct a solid base. We begin to start adding layers of coloured tissue next week and then they should really come to life!
