Toilets Opening
After a long journey, our new toilet block is now open!
Our original facilities—built in the mid-90s with tremendous community support—served us well for decades, but it was definitely time for an upgrade.
To celebrate the occasion, we held a small ribbon-cutting ceremony led by our school captains, and the smiles on every child’s face said it all. They were absolutely thrilled to finally use the bright, spacious cubicles! The real winners in all of this are our students—and I’m certainly happy not to be giving any more updates on when they might open.
This is a huge milestone for our little school.
Whole School Athletics Day
What an amazing day we had last Friday! Despite nervously watching the weather radar all morning, we were treated to surprisingly pleasant conditions—so much so that even our teachers complained they got too hot. The atmosphere was buzzing as students rotated through discus, shot put, long jump and our track events, with James (one of our generous parents) keeping everyone moving and motivated with his sound equipment and upbeat music.
My personal highlight was the relay races, where every child took part and cheered each other on. It was also fantastic to see their faces light up as they received ribbons for their efforts. Thank you to all the parents who came to watch, to James for donating his time and kit, and to Meryn and her team of volunteers for organising the day from start to finish. We can’t wait to do it again next year!
New Sports Tops
Our brand-new sports tops have arrived! Although they arrived a little after our recent interschool events, we're sure that they look will absolutely terrific on our students.
These tops were made possible by the fundraising efforts over the past few years and the generous allocation of funds by our PFA and School Council. A huge thank-you to everyone who supported sausage sizzles, raffles and other events to give our teams a fresh look.
Looking ahead, our next interschool competition is the Basketball Tournament in August, followed by selected students travelling to Bendigo to compete in the Regional Athletics Carnival. We can’t wait to see our students representing Bolinda Primary School in their new gear!
Compost Delivery
During International Compost Awareness Week, which was at the beginning of the month, Donna submitted an application on our behalf and successfully secured 6m³ of compost from the Macedon Ranges Shire Council Compost Week. We’ve already put this rich, organic material to great use, filling our garden beds and reviving the veggie patch.
Education Week
Last week, we celebrated Education Week with an Open Morning that captured the spirit of Bolinda Primary School. We invited families into our classrooms for a special shared reading session—parents settled in to read with their own child, and then each teacher took turns reading a favourite book to the whole group.
What made the morning extra special was how our students looked out for one another. Where a child’s parent couldn’t attend due to work or other commitments, classmates happily buddied together to share a story. No one was left out, and that sense of caring inclusion is one of our school’s greatest strengths.
It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces filling our school and learning spaces throughout the week. We hope to see it continue throughout the whole school year.
Wood Raffle
A huge thank-you to Donna and her family, who spent time during their weekend splitting and stacking the firewood for the Wood Raffle that was organised.
Last Saturday, the school sold raffle tickets for wood at the Lancefield Farmers’ Market. All proceeds will go towards keeping our school looking fresh and vibrant. We’re still tallying up the final total, but no matter how much we raised, every ticket sold will help keep our school looking fresh and vibrant. A huge thank-you to everyone who came out to support us and show their school spirit.
Update from Mary-Anne Thomas' Visit
Just an update on our recent visit from Mary-Anne Thomas and her team on 9 May. She has gotten back in touch to say that she’s confirmed that our current infrastructure needs have been raised with the Education Minister’s office, and we can expect further advice in in the coming weeks. We hope this is a positive step in the right direction.
