Week 7 - Mr Ryan's Report

Welcome to my first Weekly Wrap for the Charlton College Newsletter. I’ll do my best to keep it short, relevant, and maybe even a little bit interesting!

It’s hard to believe we’re already at Week 7 – the term is flying by. Our Years 7–9 students are deep in assessment mode at the moment, working through a range of tasks across their subjects. It’s a busy time, but staff have generally been really impressed with the effort and focus students are showing.

For our Year 9 students, next week brings two exciting opportunities. On Wednesday, they’ll participate in their final Broader Horizons session, and then on Thursday they’ll take part in the VET Taster Day. Both days offer a great chance to explore pathways, try something new, and think about what lies ahead – we hope they get a lot out of the experience.

A quick reminder to all students and families about the importance of wearing the correct school uniform each day. As always, we appreciate your support in helping us maintain high standards.

Finally, don’t forget we’ve got two short weeks coming up – the King’s Birthday public holiday on Monday, and a Pupil Free Day next Friday. Teachers will be using this time for report writing, and it’ll be a well-earned pause for everyone as we head toward the end of term.

Thanks for reading – more to come next week!

Weekly Wrap: Year 7

Art:

Students have been working on their Still Life creations. Most students selected their own objects and worked hard to produce some

Inspiring pieces of artwork.

Humanities:

In Humanities, we have started our new unit exploring Ancient Egypt. We have looked at various artefacts and how they help us understand the past, investigated the importance of the Nile River to the development of the society, and unpacked the social structure of the time. In the next few lessons, we will start to research significant sites, people and events to help us understand what life was like in Egypt at this point in time.

English:

In English, the students have finished their first topic for the term focused on Myths and Legends. The class is starting their new topic looking at fairytales and fables. We will unpack the key elements of each to prepare the students to create their own fairytale or fable to present as a short story or a comic book!
