Weekly Wrap: Year 1/2

Literacy:

Students have been writing their hot task to show what they have learnt about information reports. Students all got created their own Yowie information reports. Some of the Yowies the students created included the Ghost Yowie, Ronaldo Yowie, Christmas Yowie, Football Yowie, Diamond Yowie, Happy Yowie, Willy Wagtail Yowie. Students have also started studying the book ‘The Boy Who Tried to Shrink his Name’ in their Text-Based Unit and have been learning about characters.

Chinese (F-2):

Dragon Boat Festival !

Our Foundation to Year 2 students had a fantastic week learning about the Dragon Boat Festival! They listened to the exciting story behind the festival, got creative making their own dragon boats, and even sang along with the dragon boat race.

The highlight? Tasting "zong zi" – sticky rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves. Students had a go at using chopsticks to pick them up, which made things even more fun (and a little tricky!). There were lots of curious looks at first, but after the first bite... yum! Many students went back for seconds (and thirds!) and asked, “Can we have more?” and “Can I bring some home for Mum?” it was a fun, tasty, and hands-on way to explore Chinese culture!

Science:

Students created colourful kites as part of our science studies investigating force, movement and gravity.
