Our Visit to State Parliament

On Tuesday the school captains went to the State Parliament. We got there by tram and went with Mr Walsh. When we got there we had to go through security, and had to check in. We all got a sticker to put on. We put our bags in a cupboard and went into the green house, the Legislative Assembly chamber.
Our local Member of Parliament, Jess Wilson gave us an introduction then went straight into our speeches. There were so many schools there, with each school having 2 student representatives. We were the third last school to say our speech because we went by alphabetical order. Carsten and I did our speeches with Carsten going first. After we did our speeches we got a tour around Parliament House. We went into the red house, the Legislative Council Chamber. After that we went to the South Library for some food and we got to ask Jess Wilson some questions. Then we got to go home.
Ivy Di Ianni (School Captain)
On Tuesday the school captains went to Parliament. We went with Mr Walsh. We had to prepare speeches about local issues and state issues to share in the Parliament. I did mine about cyberbullying while Ivy did hers about crime rates. As soon as we got there we had to check in and after that, we went into the Legislative Assembly chamber. We entered, we all got seats to sit in, we got in the front row, then, we got greeted by Jess Wilson our local member of parliament for Kew.
There were other schools there too. She asked a few questions and we got into the speeches. St Bedes was one of the last schools to do our speeches. After the speeches, we got introduced to the other rooms and got a tour by a man who worked there. We learnt some things about the green room then, we went to the red room, called the Legislative Council Chamber. It was really big and we sat down near one of the highest rows, the man showed us the design of the room (it was filled with gold!) and took us to some other rooms. Later we had morning tea, there were sandwiches, chips, fruit skewers and water. We were able to ask Jess Wilson some questions, we then took photos with her then we left and went back to school. Overall, it was a great experience and I enjoyed it.
