Focus on Fine Motor
When using our finger muscles, we are actually developing their strength, which will help support children to be able to hold a pencil with control when mark making and/or writing.
Lego construction is a good activity to build these finger muscles. We added a vertical Lego wall to provide a different perspective too. Often children use Lego as a quiet place to build on their own creations, which shows their awareness of their body needs for some constructive quiet time. What clever learners.
Painting with ‘jelly paint’ was another fine motor activity, where children can experiment with moving the brush in different directions, ways, and with purposeful intent to make marks on paper. Children learn to control their movements, increasing their skills to be able to make precise marks, in readiness for writing.
Resilient Kids Conference
Resilient Kids Conference is a whole day event for parents + professionals who work and live with kids and teens. If you haven’t ever attended a RKC it’s quite an experience.
What I find most beautiful about RKC is witnessing hundreds of parents, educators, youth workers, chaplains, counsellors, and social workers eagerly walk through the doors, ready for an inspiring and practical day together. By the end, their faces glow with enthusiasm - and so do ours. I know each one of these speakers are ready to bring some heart and soul to your world. Hear from the following speakers:
- Michelle Mitchell (Parenting Educator) - Building Resilience: The power of one caring adult
- Steve Biddulph (Psychologist I Author) - Solving Anxiety with “Wild creature mind”
- Karen Young (Neuroscientist I Anxiety Specialist) - Big Feelings, Big Behaviour
- Matt Runnalls (Mental Health Advocate I Author I Founder of Mindfull Aus) – Empowering Parents to Nurture Neurodivergent Kids.
