Creating Our Class Acknowledgement of Country

This term, our class has been learning about the importance of Acknowledgement of Country and why it’s a respectful daily practice. As part of this learning, we created our own class Acknowledgement of Country.

We began by exploring a range of examples, both written and spoken, to understand the purpose, tone, and common elements of an Acknowledgement. In small groups, students brainstormed and drafted their own versions, selecting words and ideas that were meaningful to them.

Together, we reviewed all the drafts and combined the strongest elements to create a final version that reflects our class values and voice. This Acknowledgement is personal to us and has helped us deepen our understanding of First Nations peoples’ connection to Country.

Students also took part in designing a poster to display the Acknowledgement in our classroom. They carefully chose colours, symbols, and layout features to ensure the design felt respectful and representative.

Now, each morning after the roll, a student reads our class Acknowledgement of Country aloud. It’s a small but powerful way for us to begin our day with respect, awareness, and gratitude.
