Foundation
Students read the book 'How the Birds Got Their Colours'. This book is an Indigenous Dreamtime story. Students discussed parts of a bird and what makes a bird a bird. Students were given a black paper beak, black paper feet and a google eye. Students then drew an outline of their bird in black pen and used coloured paint stick to add colour. Next, the students glued colourful feathers onto their bird.
Grades 1 and 2
The season of winter came into the art room. Students read the story of 'The Snow Wombat'. Snowflakes are used to enhance the text and illustrations.
Students continued to develop their cutting/scissor skills. Using white paper, the students cut a circle from a piece of paper. Then the circle was folded in half three times, so it looked like a piece of pizza. Using scissors, students cut small shapes into the edges of the 'pizza'. Students were amazed when their snowflakes were unfolded and glued onto a blue background. The snowflakes are on display in the art room.
Grades 3 and 4
The water theme continued. Students looked at water drops landing in water and explored the pattern of concentric rings that were made. Students drew a dot in the middle of a circle and drew circles that were increasingly bigger. When display together, the effect is lots of water drops landing on water.
Grades 5 and 6
Students completed their bleached coral reef dioramas. These are on display in the corridor near the office.
Students are now working on a colourful 2D coral reef using Magiclay.
Just take a moment to ....
make your own snowflake.
Using any paper, even newspaper is effective, cut a circle or square and fold in half until you have a piece of pizza. Cut into the edges and open to see the different shapes and patterns.
Students completed the snowflake task in CLaS groups last week, so there are many detailed and beautiful snowflakes on display around the school.
