Hands on Learning

What an incredible start to the year it has been for our Hands-On Learning students! So far, 2025 has been filled with creativity, teamwork, and skill-building as our students took on exciting projects that will leave a lasting impact on our school community.

One fantastic achievement was the dining table built from scratch. Each student left their mark—literally—by imprinting their handprints and signing their names on the finished table. After hours of sanding, staining, and lacquering, this beautiful piece is now a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students.

Sustainability was a key focus this term, with students repurposing materials to create practical and artistic pieces. They built an outdoor sink using recycled timber, showcasing their ability to transform old materials into something functional. Additionally, they constructed a colourful bin cage from old pallets to help organise our bins. With plenty of sanding and painting, this bright and vibrant structure is now a standout feature in our outdoor area.

Another major project this term was the creation of a huge blackboard for our focus plans. This blackboard will serve as a central space for brainstorming, organising ideas, and mapping out future projects. Students worked hard to construct, paint, and install this feature, ensuring it will be a valuable tool for collaboration and planning in the terms to come.

HOL finished the term 1 off with a trip to the Melton Botanic Gardens, where students continued to work on beautifying the boardwalk area by weeding and mulching. This hands-on experience allowed them to apply their skills in a real-world setting while giving back to the community and helping to maintain a beautiful and sustainable environment.

Term 2.

Students have already hit the ground running this term with an exciting new project—repurposing cable reels and pallets into play spaces for Melton Central Kindergarten. This initiative not only enhances early childhood play environments but also deepens our students' understanding of community contribution and creative reuse of materials. Their commitment to designing and constructing safe, fun, and imaginative play elements continues to impress us.

The students have truly accomplished so much in the first half of the year, demonstrating creativity, perseverance, and teamwork. We are incredibly proud of their efforts.

Great job, Hands-On Learning team!
