Principal's Report

A Milestone Term at Kurunjang Secondary College
We are proud to share that Kurunjang Secondary College will receive a $10.7 million investment from the Victorian Government to upgrade our facilities and build a brand-new Learning Centre. This transformative funding will allow us to modernise our learning spaces and further enhance the educational opportunities available to every student. We look forward to hosting the Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, The Hon. Ben Carroll and the Member for Melton, Steve McGhie MP, with a visit to Kurunjang Secondary College on Thursday 5 June to formally announce the project and showcase the proposed works to upgrade our college.
The day prior, on Wednesday 4 June, we will host our VET Trade Training Centre Open Day, highlighting the practical, job-ready programs we offer as part of our senior pathways. This is an exciting opportunity for families and prospective students to see firsthand the skills, partnerships, and possibilities that vocational education provides.
Our Year 8 students are also preparing for a camp to Phillip Island next week, where they'll build resilience, independence, and peer connections through a range of outdoor learning experiences. We're proud to offer these kinds of opportunities that support students' social and emotional development alongside their academic learning.
Looking ahead, the General Achievement Test (GAT) will be held on Tuesday 17 June. The GAT is a significant event for students undertaking a scored VCE or the VCE Vocational Major and plays a key role in ensuring fairness and consistency in senior secondary assessment across the state. We wish our students every success and thank our staff for their careful preparation and support.
This term also sees the rollout of the Attitudes to School Survey (AToSS), which gathers vital feedback from students about their learning environment, wellbeing, and engagement. This data helps inform our school improvement strategies and contributes to our understanding of what's working and where we can grow. Thank you to all staff involved in administering the survey with professionalism and your efforts to ensure we collect high-quality insights.
In the background, the college is preparing for its School Review in October - a rigorous Department of Education process that occurs every four years. The review will evaluate our progress against our current Strategic Plan and help shape our direction for the 2026-2029 cycle. As part of this, we'll be seeking the voices of students, staff, and families to help co-design a bold, focused, and future-ready plan.
We are already well placed for this work. Our implementation of the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model (VTLM) 2.0, including a focus on Explicit Teaching, puts us ahead of the curve in delivering structured, evidence-based instruction that meets the needs of every learner. Our classroom observations, coaching, and shared instructional routines are building collective efficacy and clarity across the college.
With investment, system-aligned strategies, and strong momentum, this term marks a powerful chapter in our improvement journey. Thank you for being a part of it.
Warm regards,
Aylin Gökmen
