Breaksea House News

It’s been a positive start to Term Three in Breaksea, with all students settling in well and showing great independence and organisational skills. Despite the very wet weather, spirits have remained high, and there’s been no shortage of activities to keep everyone engaged and entertained.

Students have had a wide variety of recreational options to enjoy, including crafts, Christmas in July festivities, whale watching, and what has to be the highlight of the term so far, Quiz Night! Everyone got into the spirit, dressing in their table colours and joining forces with students from other houses to answer a series of challenging questions. A big congratulations goes to the Grey Team, who took out the win with style.

A notable mention also goes to Rif McNeil-Hanna, who became the inaugural winner of the Mr Squiggle Competition by transforming three lines and a squiggle into what looked like a scene straight out of Game of Thrones. A very impressive effort!

We’ve also had some birthdays to celebrate, Katelyn Ferry turned 16 and Sophie Harris celebrated her 18th. We marked the occasions by singing “Happy Birthday” and a delicious chocolate cake topped with fresh berries.

It’s been lovely hearing from the Year Ten's about their subject selections for next year, it’s clear they’ve given a lot of thought to what interests and excites them academically. Work experience is coming up in Week Six, and the girls are eagerly looking forward to gaining real-world experience in a variety of fields.

This term, Mr Ross Barnett continues to tutor Mathematics in Breaksea on Monday nights for our senior students, and we’re fortunate to have Amy van der Merwe and Kyle Kovacs supporting our seniors during prep sessions throughout the week. A reminder has been given to all students about the importance of adhering to IT hand-in times, everyone is aware of the expectations and the consequences for late returns.

All in all, it’s been a positive and productive start to the term. We’re proud of the way our boarders have embraced the challenges and opportunities that have come their way. We’re looking forward to everything the rest of the term holds.
