Head of Sport Report

The start of Term 3 has been a busy time for BMGS Sport. With only two rounds remaining until the ISA Winter Sport semi-finals, our teams are focused and working hard to finish the season strongly.

Looking ahead, the ISA Athletics Carnival is scheduled for September, and we look forward to a strong commitment from all students selected to represent the School. This is a great opportunity to build on your achievements from the school athletics carnival.

This term we will have our Winter Sport Presentation Evenings, please watch the newsletter for further updates on these.

Finally, preparations are underway for the summer season, with selections beginning in Week 8 for our Basketball, Tennis and Touch Football teams. The summer survey will be out soon for you to register your interest in these sports.

Touring Teams

On the 6th August BMGS will be hosting The Weydon School from the UK in games of netball, football (girls) and rugby. Students will be permitted to watch the games during Period 6 and after school.

All those who are playing in teams, please ensure that you have your correct sports uniform including any protective gear on the day.

After the games we will be hosting a short afternoon tea for the visiting teams. All players are asked to bring a plate to contribute to this.

Congratulations

Football

Congratulations to Ellie Daniels on her recent success representing ISA at the NSWCIS Football Championships. This was an outstanding achievement in a very competitive sport. Congratulations Ellie.

Netball

Congratulations to Rose Perisce-Burrell who was mentioned last term as umpire for the ISA Netball team at the NSWCIS Championships. After this event, Rose was chosen as the team umpire for the NSWCIS team at the NSW All Schools Championships. This was a great achievement. Well done Rose.

Basketball

This week congratulations goes to one of our coaches. Rod Miskell coaches two of our junior basketball teams and has been involved in representative school basketball at a PSSA level for the past 10 years. This week Rod was recognised with a 10-year service award from School Sport Australia. We are lucky that Rod is willing to give up his time for the improvement of basketball at BMGS.

Round 8 - BMGS Firsts vs Oxley

I have to start with this – WE WON!

This was our first win of the season. The girls have been a really strong contender all season, and through consistent training and focus, we have improved together which contributed to this strong performance.

In our home ground, we arrived comfortable and relaxed with a big willingness to drive hard. We knew we could be successful today coming into the game after being relatively close in the last round, so we gave it our everything.

Every single girl played a part in this win! It was definitely the best netball I have seen the team play this season – and our super spectators lifted the girls with their positive and loud cheers!

Strong connections, communications, attack, defence, support and precision! We turned over ball when we really needed it. We tweaked our movements and plays when the Oxley learnt how to defend us.

We held them out and were so excited to finish positively. Thanks of course to Oxley for bringing a great game!

Thanks to Poppy for stepping in and playing in the team today!

As always, huge thanks to our umpires who brought fairness and control. Thank-you as without you – we wouldn’t be able to play.

Can’t wait to see what our fabulous firsts can bring next week!

Round 8: BMGS Inters vs Oxley

Over the weekend, the team played an impressive game of netball, demonstrating strong cohesion and teamwork throughout the game, even after their holiday break. They continued to showcase their developing skills and growing confidence on the court, which led to a well-deserved win. A big thank you to Hannah and Hayley Lord for kindly filling in and supporting the team. Special mention to Amelie Emmerson who showed great leadership, and Coco Stafford, who was a standout player on the day.

Coaches: Miss Coote & Ms Wade

Here are also a few of the previous match reports:

Round 6 - BMGS Firsts vs Barker

After a nice little rest on the bus getting to Barker, the firsts girls arrived at Barker fresh and ready to go. They showed great levels of maturity doing an intense warm up and a deliberate focus activity.

In the first quarter, we held Barker to a small margin showing great skill and precision on the court. We really showcased the talent we have in this team!

We tweaked a few strategies to make sure we balanced the court more smoothly and adjusted our positioning when defending down the court – stepping up and recovering after our contests a bit quicker.

The team turned over a lot of ball which was really positive as well as continued our strong pass placement and shooting movement.

Barker edged away a bit more over the game, leveraging the depth the school has in their netball community. They were a great team to play.

Congratulations to Ruby Roberts who was the Barker team's player of the match from our school. Congrats Ruby!

Well done fabulous firsts – you continue to do us proud!

Round 6 -BMGS Seconds vs Barker

This week saw us travel to Barker with lots of excitement and enthusiasm. The girls, as always, were very vocal and supportive and positive with each other. We had some positional changes to ensure the best matchups on the court, and every person took their tag and gave it their all. Very impressive!

We contested really well, and used some of the fast feet drills to allow us to have big gains in our defensive ends. Through the midcourt, we backed each other up with multiple options for the centre pass. Our shooting end were great in looking out for one another when entering the circle and balancing our holding shooters. There were some magic feeds into the shooters!

Barker today were a stronger team than us – we gave it a great crack though!

Congrats girls!

Round 7 - BMGS Firsts vs Chevalier

What a chilly start in Bowral we had! There is only one court – thankfully indoor – so we had a warm up outdoor to really get the blood pumping, with a final sprint before the game back inside.

Connections were shown really well in our game this week, and a dominance in the mid court. Again, we contested the ball well however the polished Chev team were able to hold majority of the possession.

This game was full of speed, precision and accuracy from both sides.

What I loved was the great communication on the court which led to the great connections. I also loved the support from the bench from the other netball teams to lift the girls.

Unfortunately we didn’t come away with the win today, however we wrapped up very proud of our performance.

Chevalier announced Rose Perisce-Burrell as their player of the match from our school – congratulations Rose!

Thanks girls – great game!

Round 7 - BMGS Seconds vs Chevalier

After a very early start to get down to beautiful Bowral together, we cheered on our other netball teams until our game which was third up.

We brought huge energy after a great warm up – talk about intent to win! All netballers on the court were fighting hard. We had some great umpires who demonstrated great game management which kept the game clean and skilful.

The quarters were very, very close the whole match with only a few points between the teams. My heart was beating hard that’s for sure – while the girls brought lots of calm thankfully! We had been practising long and short options which the girls executed very well. I have to reiterate the support each of these girls give to one another on and off the court – just beautiful!

We managed to get the win this week after a hard fought match – really proud of the girls to drive hard right to the end. The quick lunch stop on the way home kept the smiles going!

Well done girls!
