Stand Tall Conference - A Day of Inspiration, Strength and Hope

Students from our school recently attended Stand Tall, a dynamic and empowering wellbeing event held at the International Convention Centrein Sydney. The event brought together thousands of young people for a day filled with motivational talks, music, and messages that left a lasting impact.

Our students were deeply moved by Jazz Thornton, an international mental health advocate, who spoke powerfully about the importance of hope and reaching out for support. Her message, “In all things, hope is real,” and her reminder that “asking for help does not make you weak, it makes you wise,” resonated with many in the audience.

Also taking to the stage was Daniel Flynn, the founding director of Thankyou, a globally recognised social enterprise. He challenged students to push past perceived limitations, stating that “impossibility is only someone’s opinion, not a fact.”

In one of the most emotional moments of the day, Leila Abdallah shared her journey of forgiveness after the tragic loss of her three children to a drunk driver. She spoke of the “freedom and power in forgiveness,” reminding us that “it is not a feeling but a choice” and that forgiveness not only liberates the forgiver but also has the power to change the life of the forgiven.

Matt Purcell, founder of Social Kung Fu, spoke about emotional strength and resilience, highlighting his mission to help one million young Australians become bully-proof. His powerful phrase, “words create worlds,” reminded students of the power their language holds in shaping their lives and others'.

The day concluded with a captivating talk from Michael Crossland, a man who overcame life-threatening cancer to become a successful businessman and elite sportsman. He left students with the powerful reminder: “Adversity doesn’t define you — how you deal with it does,” and urged them to “do something today that your future self will be proud of.”

In addition to the inspirational speakers, students enjoyed uplifting music and energetic dance performances that added to the vibrant, hopeful atmosphere of the event.

Our students returned from Stand Tall inspired, empowered, and motivated to make positive changes in their own lives and communities. It was truly a day to remember.
