Secondary School

Camfield Day

On Wednesday, we celebrated Camfield Day, where students rolled out in their best socks and kicks. The day included a cake stall for recess and the whole school got together for a walk during the middle part of the day, with Secondary and Primary year groups paired together. At lunch there was also a staff vs Camfield Year Twelve students' soccer game in the quad.

The reason for the day was to help raise awareness and much-needed funds for our sponsored child from Cambodia, Kosal. This will provide resources such as food and school supplies. Not only is this a good example of service learning in our school, but it is also a chance for our students to reflect on our place as members of the global community and how we can use the power of our fortunate position to offer help to those who need it most. It is an important aspect of empathy that we stick our hand up and take time to think about more than just our little patch of sand and see the bigger picture. A good lesson for us all, I think, and the seed is sewn during experiences like this at school.

Big Sleepout Movie Night Fundraiser

Coming up on Sunday 14 August from 3.45pm to 6.30pm, our Year Eleven Certificate IV students are hosting a movie night to help fundraise for the Albany Big Sleepout. There will be popcorn and snacks to go along with the movie. The Albany Big Sleepout is an event we support every year and our Certificate IV students play a major role in helping organise the event as a part of their learning. Whilst this is a community event, not a school event, it is something we support and we hope that the GSG community get behind it.

Students will be able to buy tickets for $10 to attend a screening of Happy Gilmore 2. The movie is rated PG-13, but there is some crude humour in there, so parents are advised to please make sure they are comfortable before allowing their children to attend. The event is open to all Years Seven to Twelve groups. Tickets will be sold at lunchtime in the week leading up to the event but can also be purchased on the day.

Defence Work Experience Program

The Defence Work Experience Program (DWEP) has a range of exciting upcoming opportunities for students to apply for in Semester Two, 2025. DWEP is a national Youth Program that provides young Australians with an interest in a defence career, the opportunity to gain exposure to a range of job roles. The activities are designed to be hands on and interactive so that young people can make informed career decisions.
