Report from Assistant Principal Year 11/12

Program and Course Selection (Senior School)

Throughout Term 3, students in Years 8-11 have participated in a range of course selection and activities and events. This has enabled students to reflect upon subject areas that they have passion and/or ability in, and connect this to their future education, or career pathway options. For senior students it is only our Yr11 students that are impacted. Our VCE students need only to decide what subject to remove from their academic program, only having to complete 5 subjects in 2026. For our VCE-VM and VPC students the structure of their programs should remain the same, transitioning into the second year of their subjects studied. Regardless, both sets of students need to ensure that they have checked and confirmed the program and subjects that they will be studying in 2026.

By this stage all students will have received an email inviting them to complete program/ subject selections. Within this email, an access link and unique web code are provided to access the subject selection portal. More detailed instructions can be found on the attachment below. Students have until Sunday 24th August to complete their selections for 2026.

Once Yr11 students have made their selections they will need be required to attend a course confirmation interview on Monday 25th August, where senior staff will ensure that the students’ selections align to their academic and pathway goals.

Once the course counselling process is complete, school leadership will determine which programs and subjects will run in 2026 based on student choice and interest. It is important to note that subjects with low enrolment may not be offered, in which case students will be re-counselled by their sub-schools to select alternative programs or subjects. This process will be finalized by the end of Term 3. We would like to thank parents for discussing program and subject selections with their children. Your support is invaluable, as these conversations at home are a critical part of the overall process.

Term 3 Progress Reports & Parent Teacher Conferences

At the half-way point in the term, teachers will soon complete Term 3 Progress Reports. Progress reports provide parents and guardians with a brief snapshot of how your child is progressing during the second semester.

Progress reports cover the areas of effortbehaviour, use of class time, ability to meet deadlines and, homework & preparation for class. Progress reports will be available to view in the final week of term.

On Wed 13th August, Semester 2 Parent-Teacher conferences were held. The interviews provided a great opportunity for teachers and parents to discuss students’ academic progress to this point in the term. I wanted to thank every parent and student who attended these interviews, either in person or online. The feedback from our teaching staff was very positive, and the relationships forged will certainly assist students to improve in specific areas discussed.

Year 12 Graduation

In response to an ever-increasing Yr12 cohorts our Graduation venue has changed from previous years. This year we have booked Kingston City Hall, which will allow for a greater audience. Our Graduation Committee is working hard behind the scenes to make this huge event a success for our departing Yr12 students and the broader school community. The date for Graduation has been set at Friday 28th November. More details will follow in the coming weeks regarding this special night for our departing Yr12s and their families.

Making every post a winner!

As our Yr12 VCE students approach their VCAA and trial exam periods, and our VM and VPC students approach the end of their studies, hard work from now until the end of the year will bring success and results. While exams are important, they are only one part of your journey. What matters most is the effort you put in and the resilience you show along the way. Through this time, it is important to stay organised, pace yourselves, and take care of both your body and mind — regular breaks, rest, and healthy routines will help you perform at your best.

Over the upcoming term 3 holiday period our VCE students will complete trial exams across each of their subjects. This is a perfect opportunity to gauge what areas of study design you are comfortable with, and what areas needs further work in each of their subjects. At the same time our VM and VPC students should be using this time to explore what education or employment opportunities exist for them upon their transitioning out of school. In short, the effort and planning put in over the coming weeks and months will assist to use this time as a stepping stone toward the opportunities that lay ahead.

Believe in the knowledge and skills you’ve built, and trust that you are ready. We are proud of you, and we’re cheering you on every step of the way.
