NAPLAN
NAPLAN: What It Means for Students and Schools
Each year, students in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9 across Australia participate in NAPLAN (the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy). But what exactly is NAPLAN, and why is it important for your child and their school?
NAPLAN is a national assessment that measures key skills in four areas:
It is not a pass-or-fail test but rather a snapshot of how students are progressing in the foundational skills essential for everyday life and learning.
For students, NAPLAN is an opportunity to:
Importantly, NAPLAN does not define a student’s ability or potential—it is just one part of the bigger picture of their learning journey.
For schools and educators, NAPLAN:
It also contributes to a national snapshot of educational outcomes, helping government and education bodies ensure that all students across Australia have access to high-quality education.
NAPLAN results for 2025 have now been released. Families are welcome to collect their child’s individual student report from the school office. These reports provide useful insights into your child’s learning and how they are tracking against national benchmarks.
If you have any questions about your child’s report or would like to discuss their progress, please contact their teacher to arrange a time.
Now that NAPLAN has taken place, it’s a great time to celebrate the effort and resilience students have shown. While standardised tests can sometimes feel daunting, it’s important to remember that these results represent just one moment in time.
Whether your child met expectations, exceeded them, or is working toward key skills, their learning is always growing. Your encouragement, along with ongoing support at school, helps them continue to thrive. We have been thrilled with the overall results of our Year 3 and 5 students and the hard work by teachers and students over many years has been reflected.
