Literacy
We have started our Novel study with WONDER. August has a rare craniofacial condition and has to deal with navigating life. He has been homeschooled until the start of middle school and faces the daunting task of starting school. It's a great novel that teaches the value of compassion.
Numeracy
The students have started the term well with their understanding of decimals and multipliying and dividing them by powers of 10.
In the applied side of things we are looking at angles and working out the unknown angles with the information that they have been given.
Inquiry
This term, the students will research a non-renewable and renewable source of electricity and share their findings with others. They will explore how electrical circuits work and investigate conductors and insulators of electricity
using simple electrical circuit materials. Students will learn about a day in the life of an
electrician through a guest speaker or video and act as electricians to construct a cardboard
box house with working lights.
Well-Being
We are right into the swing f the year and unfortunately, the students' time at Skye Primary is coming to a close. The start of term three is a great time to revist the 4 R's that are the cornerstone of our daily life at school. The students are excellent with the Respect that they show towards the staff and eachother. It's a great time to continue to develop their Relationships, particularly as they will all be going their separate ways and starting their secondary school journey in less than six months. Resilience is a key life skill that they need and we will be setting small challenges to help them deal with their transition into secondary school. And Responsibility is something that the students do well. They take responsibility for their learning and are always well prepared.
