Updated Weekly Timetable
Little Learners Online Platform REMINDER
We encourage you to access the Little Learners online platform regularly to find appropriately levelled texts for your child to practise their reading. We have noticed a significantly large number of the Grade 2 Cohort have not accessed any books online- please let us know if you require support to get online or if you would prefer physical books to be sent home. Daily reading is the best way for your child to improve their accuracy, fluency and comprehension.

Well done to Jagger in 2A for reaching Bronze Status!

REMINDERS:
- Learning starts promptly in the morning. Please remember to take/remind your child to use the toilet before the 8.45am bell so nothing important is missed.
- Library days: 2A - Tuesday, 2B - Wednesday, 2C - Wednesday. Please ensure your child's satchel and/or library bag is packed or they will not be able to borrow for home. (The specialist timetable for each class can be seen below.)
- We are noticing a number of students are requiring ongoing support to tie their shoelaces and this is becoming a big distraction in the classroom. Here is a handy video they can watch to practise - EASIEST shoe tying trick ever
Upcoming Learning
Literacy
In Phonics we will be reviewing recent learning, including the ways to make the long vowel sound 'o' as in /o/ and /ow/ and ways to make the long vowel sound 'u' as in /u/ and /oo/. We will then move on to reviewing /ck/ like black duck, /ch/ like chicken and chips, /tch/ like catch the witch, /ce/ like space city racing and /se/.
We began the term with a new mentor text, The Stone Lion by Margaret Wild. Students have been making connections, inferences and building their vocabulary including words like selfish, selfless, desire, generous, suffer and fervently. When learning the word 'fervently,' students were asked the question 'What do you fervently wish for?' We have been focusing on sentence level writing with a focus on possessive pronouns such as he, she, him, her, they, them, it, we etc. In the coming weeks we will continue our focus on this as well as exploring narratives.
Numeracy
- Students will continue working on Addition and Subtraction skills with a focus on strategies to solve two-digit addition and subtraction equations such as partitioning tens and ones, building fact families and using doubles and near doubles knowledge.
- We will be exploring location and directional language on maps (check out some pics below!)
Wellbeing
Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships - Positive Coping & Problem Solving
Students enjoyed getting out in the fresh air for a team building activity where they had to work together to move water from one tub to another using only a spoon. Check out the pics below!
We have noticed that our Grade 2 Cohort are wandering during playtime and not engaging in games or activities. We believe this is contributing to the issues students are having outside and would like to support them to have more focused play when in the yard. We plan to set up some games and activities for Grade 2 students during recess and lunch and are on the hunt for some donations such as blocks, cars, dolls, figurines (ideally things that are hardy, waterproof and do not contain tiny parts). If you want to make some space at home, we will gladly take them off your hands so PLEASE send them our way!
Inquiry- Use of Earth's Resources
Students will learn about the importance of water, energy and soil, three of Earth's most important resources. They will consider how they use water, where water comes from, and how we can conserve it. They will take part in a water filtration experiment to learn about how water is treated. Students will investigate ways to conserve energy and the importance of soil for sustaining life. They will become soil detectives and examine different soil samples.
