Connect: Year 1

, Hello Grade 1 families. We have had a fantastic start to Term 3. The students continue to impress us with their positive attitude to learning. They took to swimming lessons with enthusiasm. The swim school commented on their excellent behaviour. They were so independent, taking responsibility for their belongings and dressing independently.

UPCOMING LEARNING:
LITTLE LEARNERS
The students have reached the end of 7.3 adding oy/oi and oo (oops) to their bank of sounds. We will spend next week revisiting any sounds they found harder to remember before we move on to 7.4. As always reading at home really helps cement their new learning. They can use the online platform or bring home books to share. See below for the upcoming titles.
WRITING:
We have started a new book all about a little boy who doesn't like his name. During this narrative structure the students will learn what elements make a good story. They will learn about characters, settings, problems and what makes a good ending. The students will explore these elements in their own writing.
NUMERACY:
The Grade Ones have been learning about patterns and the 'Unit of Repeat'. They were able to name the rule and continue the pattern. The students explored making their own patterns for a partner to identify the rule. They will then be continuing to apply their knowledge of patterns to help them skip count in 2s, 5s and 10s.
INQUIRY:
In Inquiry, Grade 1 students are learning all about the wonderful world of minibeasts. They are recognising the features of insects and learning about some of their life cycles such as the butterfly.
Wellbeing:
Each day our morning circle focuses on our Skye values and how we can make our classroom a positive space. Through our wellbeing lessons students have been looking at their own character strengths such as kindness, persistence etc. They are being taught that we all have different qualities and strengths.
Tree Planting:
1E helped Mrs Furlong on National Tree Planting Day.
