Literacy
We have been learning many new high-frequency (heart) words, as you will see in the list below! The students are doing an excellent job recognising these words and reading them confidently in their texts. Last week's focus was understanding the suffix s and es, which is used to make words plural. This week's focus is CVCC words such as jump, sand, belt, mend and find.

Maths
Last week in Mathematics, our Prep students worked on developing their understanding of numbers to 20. Their skills include:
- name, represent and order numbers, including zero to at least 20, using physical and virtual materials and numerals
- quantify and compare collections to at least 20 using counting and explain or demonstrate reasoning
- recognising the order in the sequence of numbers to 20 and identifying the number that is ‘one less’ than a given number and the number that is ‘one more’
- using counting and one-to-one correspondence to quantify the number of items to 20
- Placing numbers up to 20 on a number line
- Compare and order numbers to 20
This week in Mathematics, we introduced the concept of addition with numbers up to 10. Students used concrete materials to model and explain simple addition stories. We have been practicing to 'count on' from the larger number.
Liam had 3 red apples. His friend gave him 4 more red apples. Now Liam has 7 apples altogether.
Equation:3 + 4 = 7
In Mathematics, students have been exploring the concept of Capacity, with a particular focus on comparative language such as full, empty, half full, holds more, holds less and holds the same.
Inquiry
Our new Inquiry Unit is titled Weather and Seasons. Throughout the term, children will investigate different types of weather and the impacts of weather on our daily lives. They will also observe daily and seasonal changes in the natural world and explore how animals survive in cold weather.
Here is a song about the weather:
Wellbeing
During our Wellbeing lessons, students have been revisiting our expectations and actively practicing their social skills. They are consistently utilising the ‘Ready to Learn’ scale and plans, which assist them in recognising whether they are in an optimal state for learning or if they require calming strategies. We have had a focus on building strengths through cooperative games such as Simon Says. Students also identify some emotions felt by characters in a story. Students named the strengths shown by different characters in a story
