Tree Planting Day with Yarra Ranges Council
Middle Primary were chosen to do something really special — we helped the Yarra Ranges Council plant trees in our local area! We were buzzing with excitement as we lined up and walked together to the planting site.
When we arrived, we spotted a tent with all the tools and equipment set up. Ben, from the Council, talked to us about what we’d be doing. He explained that we were planting low-growing shrubs underneath the tall trees. This helps make a better home for native animals like owls and yellow-bellied gliders. Ben also told us that small marsupials, frogs, and reptiles would love living in the area once the plants grew.
Then it was time to get our hands dirty! We put on our gloves and learned how to carefully take the plants out of their pots and loosen the roots. We planted them in the ground and pressed the dirt down to keep them cosy. We even added guards around them to keep them safe while they grow.
Altogether, Middle Primary planted 750 shrubs in one day! It was such a fun and meaningful experience, and we’re excited to one day go back and see how our plants are growing!
