Principal's Report

Welcome to Term Three
Welcome back to school—we hope everyone had a restful break.
Term 3 is now underway, and we’re looking forward to another productive term. Our students will be working hard to build on the gains they made in Semester 1, continuing to grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
We’d also like to give a warm welcome back to Sam Izzo, who has returned to work in the F/1 area. It’s great to have her back as part of the team.
We’re excited for what’s ahead and look forward to a great term together.
NAPLAN Results
This week, students in Years 3 and 5 will receive their NAPLAN results, based on the assessments completed in early Term 1. These results provide a snapshot of student performance on the day and help us reflect on progress and areas for growth.
We’re pleased to share that our students performed exceptionally well, and we are proud of their efforts and the dedication they’ve shown to their learning.
NAPLAN results are compared with those from similar schools—schools with students from comparable backgrounds and families with similar education and occupational profiles. When compared to these schools, our Year 3 students had a higher percentage of students in the Exceeding or Strong categories across all tested areas:
- 92% in Writing
- 83% in Reading
- 83% in Numeracy
Our Year 5 students also achieved strong results:
- 85% in Numeracy
- 86% in Reading
- 77% in Writing
These results are a testament to the hard work of our students and teachers, and we congratulate everyone involved in making this year’s NAPLAN such a success.
Planning for 2026 – Student Enrolment Updates
As we begin planning for 2026, we understand that some of our students in Years 4 and 5 may be transitioning to private schools in the new year.
If you have finalised your decision to leave Macedon Primary School at the end of 2025, we would greatly appreciate you letting us know as soon as possible.
This information is essential for our forward planning, including staffing, class structures, and resource allocation.
We thank you for your cooperation and support as we work to ensure a smooth and well-prepared start to 2026.
Gaga Pit
Over the holidays, our new Gaga Pit was installed, and it has quickly become a favourite among our students. They have really enjoyed playing the game during breaks.
To support safe and fair play, our teachers spent time explicitly teaching students the rules, and we’re pleased to say that they have been fantastic in following them.
The Gaga Pit was purchased using funds raised by our PFA last year, and we’d like to thank them once again for their ongoing support. In addition to the Gaga Pit, we have also used PFA funds to purchase goal post padding for the basketball court, further enhancing the safety and enjoyment of our outdoor spaces.
We’re incredibly grateful for the PFA’s contributions and the positive impact they continue to have on our school environment.
Playground
We’re excited to announce that our Inclusive Playground is officially open, and it has been wonderful to see our students enjoying the space each day.
We’re incredibly pleased with the amazing equipment that has been installed, offering a fun, engaging, and accessible play space.
The final step in the project will be the installation of outdoor tables, which have unfortunately been delayed. We are expecting them to arrive next week and plan to have them installed over the weekend to minimise any disruption to play and learning.
Thank you to everyone who has supported this project.
Attendance
As part of our School Strategic Plan, we’re aiming to reduce student absences to an average of fewer than 17 days per student each year.
Regular attendance supports learning and wellbeing. Missing 20 days a year adds up to over a full year of school missed by Year 12.
So far this year, Macedon Primary students have missed 1,836 days – an average of 7.91 days per student.
Thank you for supporting regular attendance. Every day counts!
2026 Foundation Enrolments
We have officially begun the process for 2026 Foundation enrolments at Macedon Primary School.
We are currently holding regular school tours for prospective families, which can be booked via our school website. These tours are a great opportunity to see our school in action and learn more about what we offer.
If you are planning to enrol your child or know someone who is considering Macedon Primary for 2026, please encourage them to book a tour and attend the information night. We look forward to welcoming our next group of Foundation families.
Warm regards,
Andrew Bloomfield
