Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day

On the 11th day,

Of the 11th month,

 At 11am,

 We WILL Remember Them.

Oakleigh RSL

On Sunday 10th November, we had a group of senior students represent our school at the Oakleigh RSL Remembrance ceremony.  The president of the RSL led the service and the only other speaker was Celeste from Year 6 who read the poem Flanders Field.  Thank you Celeste, you represented us all well.

A wreath was also laid by a group of our students.

We thank Celeste, Max, Will, Dante, Sebi, Hugh, Seth, Michael, Nicky, Mila and their parents and guardians for attending and representing COHR.

COHR School

As a school we held our own Remembrance Day ceremony on Monday 11th November. We gathered in the courtyard and 5/6 G led us.

We have been selling poppies on behalf of the RSL from the Office. Thank you to those who bought one and contributed to their Poppy Appeal.

Red poppies are worn, inspired by the thousands that grew across the battlefields of the Western Front.  Known as the ‘Flower of Remembrance’, the red poppies are worn in memory of those who served and made the ultimate sacrifice and to recognise their acts.

We are reminded to be like Jesus. Jesus believed in peace. It is an important day for us to stop and pray for peace;  peace in our world, peace among people in our own country,

peace in our families and peace in our own hearts.

In Library, students read the books Pidge's Poppies and A Poppy for Pa and we learnt the song 'We are God's hands' by Andrew Chin.

We are God’s hands, we are God’s eyes

We are the love, the heart of Christ

Oh Spirit move, our hearts and minds

That we may see, peace in our time

All students contibuted to a mural that is displayed in our foyer with the message...

"Peace is our hands"
