Greetings everyone,
I hope this email finds you all well and excited about the preparations for the festive season ahead.
Celebrating St Luke’s Day: A Community United in Spirit and Talent
What an extraordinary day it was as our school community came together for this year’s St Luke’s Day celebration! The energy, enthusiasm and camaraderie that filled our grounds were nothing short of inspiring. This event highlighted the incredible talents and entrepreneurial spirit of our students and reaffirmed the strong sense of community that makes our College so special. The celebration commenced with a College Liturgy where the entire community gathered to recognise how St Luke and our faith make our community who we are.
A standout feature of the day was the contribution from our School of Entrepreneurs. Through their creativity, hard work and passion, these students brought to life innovative activities and ideas that not only amazed their fellow students and staff, but also showcased their diverse talents and skills. From acts of service through volunteering to assist our younger students, innovative stalls to interactive activities, their work demonstrated the immense potential of our future leaders.
A special thank you must go to our Year 10 and Year 12 volunteers, who played a pivotal role in making the day such a success. These students stepped up to guide, support and mentor younger students throughout the festivities. Their leadership, patience and positivity created a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, allowing everyone to fully participate and enjoy the day’s activities. Your dedication exemplifies the values of service and generosity and we are so proud of the role you played in fostering such a memorable celebration.
Talent That Shines BrightOne of the most heartwarming parts of St Luke’s Day was the Talent Showcase. From musical performances to artistic displays, our students wowed the audience with their remarkable abilities. It is a true blessing to witness the breadth and depth of talent in our College community and we are grateful to everyone who stepped into the spotlight and shared their gifts with us.
Looking Ahead: Finishing Strong for 2025As we reflect on the success of St Luke’s Day, we are reminded of the importance of finishing the year strong. The final weeks of school are a crucial time to embed good habits, complete tasks with excellence and prepare ourselves for the challenges and opportunities of 2025. Whether it’s staying organised, seeking support when needed, or maintaining focus on goals, let’s all work together to end the year on a high note.
To all students, staff, and families: thank you for making St Luke’s Day a day to remember. Your enthusiasm and support remind us that our College is more than a place of learning, it is a vibrant, united community where every individual contributes to our collective spirit. Let’s carry this energy forward as we embrace the weeks ahead and prepare for the next chapter in 2025!
Wishing you all well for the upcoming weeks.

AROUND THE SOE GROUNDS
Religious Education
Year 10 students have recently started their journey to the HSC through the Studies of Religion I Accelerated Program. As they take their first steps within the course, they are constantly being challenged to acknowledge religion as a distinctive answer to
the human need for meaning in life. Students are currently forming an understanding of how religion provides a perspective for the human view of reality and deals with daily living as well as with the ultimate source, meaning and goal of life.
This early introduction allows students to explore diverse religious traditions, ethical frameworks, and cultural perspectives while developing critical thinking, research, and analytical skills.
In recent weeks, Year 10 students engage in the art of biblical micrography, where they create intricate designs using tiny handwritten scripture passages. This creative process allows them to reflect deeply on the Word of God, fostering a personal connection to scripture. Linking their artwork to the importance of prayer, students explore how prayer enhances their understanding of faith, provides spiritual guidance, and strengthens their relationship with God. Through this activity, they gain a greater appreciation of prayer as a vital practice in their spiritual lives.
Year 9 students are crafting short stories that explore the theme of stewardship, creatively linking it to current environmental issues. Through their narratives, they reflect on humanity's responsibility to Care for our Common Home, drawing connections to ecological challenges such as pollution, deforestation, and climate change. This activity encourages students to think critically about their role as stewards of the Earth while honing their storytelling and writing skills.
Duke of Ed
Thank you to the Year 9 Elective Duke of Ed class who have continued the tradition of working with Connected AU on The Christmas Project.
This year, Connected AU has partnered us with aged care facilities and women’s shelters. We have been asked to send letters, cards, artwork or handmade gifts to vulnerable and isolated people during the Christmas season. This goes beyond the simple exchange of material items. It’s a powerful gesture of empathy, kindness and community, providing comfort, joy and a sense of belonging to those who need it most. It serves as a reminder of the true spirit of the holiday season: love, compassion, and the joy of giving.
Their packages of cheer will be mailed off at the end of this week to spread comfort to those in need, showing charity in loving service to others.
Technologies
Year 9 Make Bake and Decorate
Students have focussed on Event planning this term, planning and providing catering for various events around the school. For St Luke’s Day, they prepared all school staff a thank you treat which was very much appreciated by all. The last few weeks they have been planning a Christmas Morning tea where they will create joy through decoration and food. Here you can see the class preparing various items for this morning tea, can you guess what traditional and modern items they have prepared?
HSIE
In Week 6, Stage 6 Modern History students attended the Jewish Museum. Students engaged in a seminar on source analysis to hone their skills on an area which is essential for success in the HSC. Students also had the opportunity to hear the testimony of a survivor of the Holocaust. In the last part of the day, students attended a lecture on the impact of Nazism on everyday life. The educators at the Jewish Museum fed back that our students were very knowledgeable about this topic and were great ambassadors for the school.
CAPA
Music
In Music, Stage 6 students are exploring musical concepts through the study of music in the 20th and 21st centuries. Students are currently working on the development of core components within their courses. This is the musicology and performance core components. They will be performed and discussed at the end of this term.
Art
This term, our senior art students have been exploring the transformative era of the Renaissance. They’ve examined how this pivotal period revived classical ideals, embraced humanism, and pioneered techniques like linear perspective. Through this case study, students are gaining a deeper understanding of the cultural and artistic shifts of the time, which they are using to inform the development of their own unique bodies of work. Their explorations reflect a thoughtful engagement with one of history’s most influential art movements.
Life Design
Year 9 have been exploring what makes a Positive Digital Footprint and are in the process of developing an online ePortfolio that showcases them at their best. With the use of a portfolio, students can reflect on exactly who they are, what they can do and what problems they like to solve, with a range of evidence to support each statement.
Year 10 have been working across Life Design and Work Studies for their Legacy Project. This involves ideating a possible project that inspires future generations at St Luke’s. There have been some wonderful projects approved by College leaders, including students' access to the Gym, ‘Live the Good News’ reels each week, weekly student sport reports to be released on socials and a multitude of community and well-being initiatives. Each group has learnt the team enterprise skills required in their Work Studies lessons and actively using these during their Life Design sessions. The success of these projects is determined by the effort and dedication shown by the students over the coming months.
One of the continuing Legacy projects here at St Luke’s is the Year 10 Bridging Ceremony. This will be held on Friday 13th December, 2024 (session 3) in the performance Hall. We are hoping to get it live streamed for parents to view.
