Grade 2 Community News
Dear families,
As we near the end of the year, it’s hard to believe how quickly the time has flown! This is such an exciting time for our Grade Two students as they prepare to step up to Grade Three. Every single one of our students has shown incredible growth, and we couldn’t be prouder of their achievements. It’s been a joy to watch their confidence, skills, and friendships flourish throughout the year. Let’s celebrate their hard work and keep the momentum going as we finish the term strong!
Excursion
Our Grade Two students stepped back in time on their exciting visit to the Werribee Mansion! Inside the mansion, they marvelled at artefacts from nearly 150 years ago, imagining what life might have been like back then. The children’s room was a highlight, where they got hands-on with toys from the past and discovered what school days were like in a much simpler time. Outside, the fun continued as they explored the mansion’s stunning gardens, soaking up the sunshine and enjoying a day full of laughter and learning. What an adventure!
Reading
In Read to Learn, our Grade Two students have been diving into the fascinating world of the human body! They've explored the five senses, body systems, organs, the Digestive System, and the importance of healthy foods—gaining a deeper appreciation for all the incredible things our amazing bodies do every day. It’s been exciting to see their curiosity spark as they uncover these "cool" body facts!
During our fluency lessons we’ve been building fluency through buddy reading and choral reading activities, where students have also been practicing how to give thoughtful and constructive feedback to one another. What a fantastic term of learning and growing together!
Writing
In writing lessons, our Grade Two students have been hard at work sharpening their skills to be Grade Three ready! We’ve been reviewing our syntax lessons, ensuring sentences are structured clearly and confidently. A big focus has been on using conjunctions to create complex sentences, helping students add more depth and detail to their writing. It’s been wonderful to see their creativity and confidence grow as they experiment with new ways to express their ideas on paper. Keep up the fantastic work, Grade Twos!
Maths
In Maths, we’ve kicked off an exciting unit on money! Our Grade Two students have been busy counting collections of Australian coins and notes, comparing their values, and solving simple word problems involving money. They’ve also been writing number sentences to match their problem-solving strategies. To take ownership of their learning, students are using a rubric to track their progress and set personal goals. This hands-on unit has been both fun and engaging, as students develop important life skills while exploring the world of money!

Friendly Reminders
• As we embrace the warmer weather, please ensure your child brings their Tarneit Rise hat to school every day. Without their hat, they will need to stay in the shade during playtimes to ensure their safety.
• Let’s work together to keep up great attendance! Please support your child in arriving at school by 8:45am each day. This helps them make the most of their learning opportunities and stay on track to achieve their attendance reward goals.
• Keep fostering a love for reading at home! Encourage your child to read every night and log their efforts in their reading journal as part of our Take-Home Reading Program. It’s been incredible to see the progress our students are making!
Thank you for your continued support in helping our students thrive. Together, we’re making a difference!
