Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers

As the year draws closer to winding up, I would like to acknowledge our amazing school captains, Emily, Meet, Lucy and Aryaman. These four young people have given up many hours of their time to represent TRPS and have worked hard to lead the community and provide input so we can continuously grow and improve as a school. We are currently in the process of electing our school captains for 2025 and this year’s captains are playing key roles in this process. Grade 5 children gave their school captain speeches yesterday and their peers voted on their preferred applicants. From here the top 10 candidates will be interviewed. I must say when I was listening to the speeches, I felt incredibly proud of all children who have shown the leadership and courage to put their names forward for these roles.  The 2025 captains will be presented with their badges at the final assembly of the year on Friday December 20th.  Our federal member of parliament, Joanne Ryan, will also be at this assembly to present the Julia Gillard Award to a student and the Lalor Hero award to a member of our school community.

Next Tuesday is International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD). The theme for IDPwD 2024 is: Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future.

Did you know?

•    There are 5.5 million people with disability in Australia – that’s 1 in 5 people

 •    15% of people in Australia aged 0-64 years have disability

•    52% of people in Australia aged 65 years and over have disability

•    7.9% of all Australians have a profound or severe disability

•    9.9% or 1 in 10 people with disability in Australia have experienced discrimination

Facilities and Grounds

We were all so very excited to see work on our playground resume last week. The Victorian School Building Authority signed off on the modifications to the playground last week and the contractors were back on site immediately. This playground will have a shaded climbing frame, slide, water play area, sensory garden, and basketball court. It will add value enormously to our play space and we are keeping everything crossed that it will be finished by the end of the school year.

We will get some additional landscaping done over the holidays including some fencing around the garden (so we can remove the orange tape!) and installing a watering system to keep the gardens watered over the summer months. The gardens are thriving at the moment, especially the orchard with fruit ladened trees. The children are delighted to spy birds sitting on nests and they have loved watching our resident Welcome Swallows hatch their babies, feed them and teach them to fledge. We love watching our swallow family darting through the yard every day. We are so lucky to have such a beautiful school!

We are still waiting for our electrical upgrade to be connected so we no longer need to rely on the two generators. This now sits with Powercor.

Thank you for your continued support throughout this busy and exciting term. We look forward to finishing the year on a high note with lots of fun, learning, and celebration. As always, feel free to reach out to the school with any questions or concerns.

Warm Regards

Nadia (Principal)
