Chaplain's Message

As I sat and watched Kamala concede defeat this morning, I was struck by her grace, her dignity, courage and her capacity to encourage those around her who were obviously shocked and disappointed. Her words to the young people were of hope and strength, urging them never to give up and know that the stars are out there shining brightly on a new tomorrow. Don’t take my lame translation as a whole, if you didn’t hear her, it really is worth a listen, regardless of political affiliations.

Some great words for our young people who are completing exams and getting ready to move out into our complicated world that is waiting to receive and mould them. But the question remains to each of them, 'Are you going to be moulded by the world, or are you going to mould your little corner of the world – and who is your yardstick?'

I share with you today a poem by Mother Teresa – you may well have seen this or read it somewhere but it is always worth another peruse!

Do it Anyway

People are often unreasonable, illogical and self centered;

Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;

Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;

Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;

Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;

Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;

Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;

Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;

Give the world the best you’ve got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and your God;

It was never between you and them anyway.

Please also remember that forgiveness brings peace of mind! It's the greatest tool we have!

Colossians 3:13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
