Principal's Message

To Strive, To Seek, To Care with HEART

Dear Families & Friends,

Summer Carnival

Congratulations and immense gratitude go to our Carnival Coordinator, Davey Tudor and PE Assistant, Riley Simpson, for organizing eight different activities to choose from last Friday. I visited all of the venues, and it was wonderful to see the high level of engagement from the students involved. I’m also appreciative of our staff who convened, scored, refereed and supervised the variety of events we had on offer. It’s a huge effort to plan, organise and supply equipment to different venues around town, but it gives our students the opportunity to develop important lifelong skills outside of the classroom.

Outdoor Education and Sports Assembly

Congratulations to the many students who were recognized for their achievements in our Outdoor Education program and Sports. We have many accomplished hikers, cyclists, canoeists, abseilers and athletes at the college who spend many hours each week developing their physical and strategic skills to be able to perform these challenges to a very high skill level. I admire the staff who coach them, support them out of hours and instill sportsmanship into their training.

Orientation Week

Last week we welcomed nearly 100 students from primary schools around town and local communities to come and see what St Philip’s is all about. Thanks to Janine Cooper and Paul Bailey who coordinated and accompanied the students, and to the staff who shared their special skills with the different groups each day.

Examinations

Year 12 exams started on Monday with Maths, and continues until the end of next week. Year 11 exams started on Wednesday. Good luck to our students and thank you to the Year 12 staff who have supported them throughout the year.

Year 12 2025 Orientation Day

Next Monday, Deputy Principal, Tammy Hawkins and the Heads of House have organised a day with our current Year 11s to prepare them for the rigors of Year 12. It is an important opportunity to develop the necessary skills to be able to handle the challenges of their final year of secondary education. It is also a chance for the group to bond together as a collective to face the complexities of senior year. I urge parents to ensure their student attends this important milestone event.

Graduation and Valedictory Dinner

Next Friday we will be hosting the Year 12 Graduation Ceremony in The Minnamurra Hall at 6 pm. Students and families of all year levels are invited to attend, but please register at Humanitix https://events.humanitix.com/year-12-graduation-2024-spc  The following night the Alice Springs Convention Centre is the place to see our students arrive in their finest for the Year 12 Valedictory Dinner at 6 pm. Always a wonderful community event, don’t miss out.

Finally, the last four weeks of the term are still to come. Assignments to be completed, tests and examinations (Year 10 only) to take and learning to complete. Every day is important – let’s keep the expectations high and the support strong so every student can feel a sense of accomplishment at the end of 2024.

Kind regards,
