Literacy

During Literacy, we are focusing on being a ‘good writer’ which involves being organised, sitting correctly, pincer pencil grip and correct letter formation. Students have enjoyed writing sentences during our dictation sessions. They have written sentences such as, Ralph sings the alphabet song. Wham! Seth landed flat in the mud. We have also discussed what a noun, verb and adjective is. Children have been reading a big book each day and focusing on the features of a fiction and non fiction text.

Keep reading your Boomerang book during the holidays!

Maths

We have been revising subtraction. Students have used concrete materials to solve and create subtraction stories.

For example: I had 6 balls and I lost 3 of them. I have 3 balls left.

Children learn important maths concepts through play. Here is a link to a game you could play at home:

Go Fish: Doubles and Near Doubles

Grade 5 Craft Activity:

The Grade Fives joined the Preps for an exciting craft activity. We read, 'The Very Cranky Bear' then created the bear with his accessories from the story. The Grade Fives were great helpers to the Preps and we also enjoyed a shared lunch outside.

We have had an amazing year, filled with lots of learning. Our Preps have grown academically and socially. As teachers we have loved watching them form friendships and start to mix with the wider community. We are proud to usher them into Grade One and wish them all the best. Happy holidays and enjoy your break!
