Prep Guy

Over the past two weeks we have been revising fiction and non fiction texts in Reading.

In Writing we have revised changing the beginning sound, middle sound and ending sound to make new words. For example cat can change to bat, bat can change to but and but can change to bun, by swapping the original sound to a different one. We revised making new words from word families.

In Maths we have been revising duration of time and drawing things we can do in one second, one minute, one hour, one day , one month and one year. We have revised mass, equal sharing of objects and making equal groups.

We have been learning about the picture story book The Gruffalo, completing activities about the characters, comparing and contrasting them. We have learnt about the setting and the different parts of this fiction story. We have been learning how to summarise a fiction story making sure all the parts that make up a fiction story are covered. Then we  tried to write a new narrative by changing parts of this original story.

We absolutely loved our excursion to see The Gruffalo live on stage. Students joined in with mighty 'roars' to help the mouse scare off the other animals in the story. We learnt about Remembrance Day, making painted poppies with paint and our fingers.

We have been very busy this week completing assessment tasks to inform the writing of your child's report. It is amazing to see such enormous growth in Prep Guy students. Remember my classroom door is always open to you, so please feel free to come in and chat about your child at any time.

1 Wigg

Over the past two weeks students in 1W have been focusing on revising our long phonemes. This included the /ar/, /ir/ and /ur/ graphemes. We continued to revise comprehension strategies including developing questions, making connections and also recalling the features of fiction texts.

In Maths we revised our time duration, including recognising and ordering events based on their time durations, the months in each season of the year and also reading and recording time to the half and quarter of an hour.

In Integrated studies, students have continued to learn about the concept of 'mini beasts' and they learnt about butterflies. Students explored why they are important to our ecosystem and recreated the lifecycle of a butterfly before researching information on a mini beast of their choice to share with the class.

It was fantastic to see so many students enjoy The Gruffalo on stage! It was a fantastic day with plenty of laughs and singing involved.

Students Achievers

The Student Achievers over the past two weeks were Charlie and Nathan. Well done of showing fantastic Respect and Responsibility. We are so proud of the effort you have shown. Keep it up
