The KWS Triathlon Team had a big weekend of racing, completing in the NSW/ACT Pathway Series Billigence Triathlon. For many students this was their first triathlon, a challenge when the water temperature was 19 degrees!
All students performed admirably, with standout performances from Jessica Thompson, placing 3rd in the ladies 14 + age group, non-drafting super series, George Davis finishing 3rd in the 12 + age group, Oscar Zelinksi finishing 3rd and Max Horne 2nd in the 13+ age group.
Team members Will Ward, Zoe Wood, Sam Commins and Ashton Montagliani had tough races against students aged up to 21 years of age and all did exceptionally well in the tough conditions.
Students have been loving the alternating Tuesday afternoon classes between Step and Pilates with Michelle. These sessions are a great way to get moving and improve fitness.
On Thursdays, Miss Triggs leads strength training sessions in the PLC gym which focusses on compound movements for improving functional strength. The students are enjoying the variety in this program and the participation rates have been high. It is wonderful to support students in a non-competitive environment with a focus on fun and fitness.
We encourage all students to keep up the great work and make the most of this opportunity to improve their health and fitness.”
The gym has continued to thrive well into term 4 with everyone who’s shown up demonstrating fantastic application. Our open gym sessions held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings for the year 9-12, has consistently seen around 35 students. This steady turnout has allowed students to continually improve their movement capacity, strength and power.
Open cricket and touch football have been sharing the gym space on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. The cricketers are making impressive strides in improving their unilateral and trunk strength, while the touch football girls are getting stronger in the key lifts every session.
Our rowers have been occupying the afternoon sessions, making excellent progress as they prepare for their first regatta this weekend. The recent 5-week training block focused on functional hypertrophy and strength, providing a solid foundation for the upcoming power training phases.
Overall, the energy in the gym has been outstanding, and it’s fantastic to see the new facility being utilised to its full potential.

The past fortnight has been exceptional for Kinross Rowing, with great training conditions and significant individual and team milestones achieved. Training intensity has increased, and the squad recently completed a demanding testing week. This phase tested the rowers' physical and mental endurance, and it was impressive to see over 90% of our rowers achieving personal bests for the season.
A special mention goes to Olivia Searle, Lucy Reidy, Toby Buckland, Harry Dymock, Oscar Cleary, Xavier Zinga, and Paxton Buckerfield for setting season and school records in the erg room during this period!
Our crews are now set for the first regatta of the season, the NSW All Schools Regatta, taking place this Saturday. For those interested in supporting the team, a livestream will be available on the NSW Rowing YouTube page. Be sure to tune in and cheer on the KWS rowing squad!
Best of luck to all sports teams competing this weekend!
