Year 8 State Softball Champions

VBC’s year 8 girls softball team battled through the softball state finals on the 14th November.

After coming up against a state level pitcher against St Albans, we were able to come away with a one run win.

Unfortunately we were unable to defeat Brentwood, but made up for in with a convincing win against Frankston. It was all down to %, with each team in our pool having a loss throughout the day. We were thrilled to find out we were in the grand final against Balwyn HS.

The girls fought hard to come away with a one run victory, becoming state champions!

It was such a pleasure to coach this group of students and a bonus that the year 7 girls softball team also took their state flag!

Friday arvo trainings paid off girls. Well done.

Year 7 State Softball Champions

The Year 7 Girls headed to Waverley Softball Centre, Waverley on 14th of November, 2024 for State finals and came home undefeated. The event showcased incredible teamwork and determination.

Our girls kicked off the day by playing their first match against St. Albans College and won by 2 runs in the 3rd inning itself, setting the tone for what would be a string of outstanding victories.

There were 4 teams in the pool, and by the end of round-robin stage, they had established themselves as the team to beat, finishing first in their pool.

With a place in the championship game secured, our girls faced off against Brentwood in the grand final. It was a close match and our team won by 3 runs. The team’s captain, Ellie Vukic, displayed outstanding leadership throughout the matches and cheering up for all.

Credit must also go to the team’s dedicated coaches Stephanie Keely and Emily Jones from Year 10, whose guidance played a crucial role in preparing the team to success.

National Taekwondo Competition

3rd in Australia For Salwa!!

Salwa A from Year 7 competed on Sunday 10th November in the National Taekwondo championships in Brisbane.

Inspired by her mother's passion for self-defence, Salwa has dedicated three years to the sport, training rigorously under the guidance of her mentor.

With unwavering determination and a strong work ethic, Salwa aspires to reach the pinnacle of taekwondo by competing in the Olympics. Her advice to aspiring athletes is simple: hard work and push yourself in pursuit of excellence.

A driving force for Salwa comes from her coach who says to "make pain your friend" and "always push through".

Salwa competed against 4 other girls in her division.

What an amazing effort that couldn't come without hard work and determination - we are so proud of you!!

Umpire Academy returns in 2025

In 2024 Viewbank College formed a partnership with the Yarra Junior Football League to establish an Umpire Academy. 10 students participated in an 8-week program at the College which provided key skills to commence umpiring in the YJFL on Sundays and get paid. The students were introduced to important life skills that umpiring can provide, namely.

* Decision making

* Leadership

* Effective communication

* Match-day management

* Administration duties

According to league officials, two students had very successful seasons: Jacob Clare achieved 3 Final appearances including Under 11, Under 12 and Under 13s. Xavier Knight achieved 8 Finals including an Under 14 Grand Final as a boundary umpire. Congratulations to Jacob, Xavier and our students who took the first steps into umpiring in 2024.

Any year 8,9 or 10 students looking to start umpiring in 2025 are welcome to come to an information session with league officials held at Viewbank College in early December. Please send an expression of interest to Mr. Lyngcoln via teams.

Year 7 State Boys Basketball

On Monday 18th November our Year 7 boys headed to the State Basketball Centre to play in the finals. The boys played 3 games for the day.

Unfortunately the boys were unsuccessful at state level but represented themselves and the school well all day.

Thanks to Em Jones and Steph Keely for not only coaching but also leading 2 teams to the state level this year.

Year 7 Girls & Boys Tennis District

On Thursday 14th November our Year 7 girls and boys headed to Macleod Tennis Club to play in the district tennis. Both the girls and the boys had good wins and progress to the next round. Congratulations to all involved.

Year 7 Girls Table Tennis State Runners Up

On Wednesday 20th November the Year 7 girls headed to MSAC to compete in the state table tennis. The girls played 3 matches in their pool which they won them all.

Followed by a very close semi final game which they won to play in the grand final match and lose. What a huge achievement to be second best in the state!!
