Year 9 Duke of Edinburgh Camp
Duke of Edinburgh Camp
On the 6th of November, the year 9 Duke of Edinburgh class set off for our final qualifying camp at Murrindindi Scenic Reserve. After dropping off our group gear, we were taken to the start of the Murrindindi River Walk Trail, where we prepared for the hike and eventually set off.
After a day of hiking with heavy packs in 30-degree heat, sharing snacks and even working through a few injuries, we made it back to camp. Everyone was eager to set up tents, check out the river, and then begin cooking our first dinner.
On day two, we left our big packs behind and set off to Wilhelmina Falls for lunch. The hike was around 6.5kms return, with great weather and amazing views along the way. That night a fair bit of rain came in, but thankfully it didn’t last long.
By the final day, we were all exhausted, sore and ready to head home. Without a doubt, this camp was filled with challenges- everything from forgetting fuel for cooking lunch, to cleaning dirty trangia's.
However, despite the challenges, the experience was amazing.
The campfires, exploring the area, cooking meals, and making memories with both new and old friends made it an unforgettable camp that we all truly enjoyed. The combination of good company, great conversations, and shared experiences left us with memories that will stick with us for years to come.
