Wellbeing
Term 4, Week 8&9
With Term 4 being super busy, seeing students behaving respectfully at swimming and around the school has been wonderful. In our School-wide Positive Behaviour Support lessons, students have been revising their learning around representing Old Orchard with pride, being responsible for our belongings, and showing respect to learning spaces and resources. In Respectful Relationships lessons, students have explored Topic 7: Gender and Identity and Topic 8:Positive Gender Relations. A lot of this learning has been around challenging gender stereotypes, being fair and inclusive and showing respect to others, regardless of their sex, age, cultural background or any other difference. This learning aligns well with our core school values of Respect to Self, Others and Learning.
IDPWD
This term, we will have a whole-school focus on the International Day of Persons With Disability and our school values of Respect to Self and Others. Although the official IDPWD is on December 3rd, we will mark it as a community on December 16th, including by having a former student who has just graduated high school come and speak at an assembly. The community is more than welcome to attend the assembly, which will take place from 1:20pm in the gym on Monday, December 16th. This year's theme is "Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future.". In student talk, we can describe this as "Providing opportunities for everyone in our society to be leaders now and into the future".
This is also our next Wellbeing Day. We’ve found that the whole-school Wellbeing Days run each term have been an excellent chance for classes to work with classmates, buddies and students from across their cohorts. On these days throughout the year, students have developed their understanding of Harmony Day, NAIDOC Week, RUOK? Day and finally, IDPWD.
