Performing Arts News

Hi Tarneit Rise families, we hope you’re keeping well as the weather warms up.

Prep students have been creating dances and music that expresses feelings and ideas. Creating performing art is a wonderful to express our emotions, as our Prep students have been enjoying. These activities involve discussion and brainstorming about the kinds of feelings you can express and how best to express it, which is also great for our Preppie’s growing emotional vocabulary.

Grade 1 and 2 students have completed their ventriloquism puppet assessment, and this fortnight they have been exploring some other types of puppets, including beginning to make their own shadow puppets. The students have enjoyed the opportunity to create their own characters, as well as learning the technique of using cardboard and paddle pop sticks to create their very own puppets. As well as extending their skill in puppeteering, students practiced using character voices and considering the audience when performing. Puppets are great fun to make and use at home too!

Grade 3 and 4 student’s improvisation unit has seen students creating some weird and wonderful characters and scenes together. Improvised drama requires students to think creatively and collaboratively, as is a fantastic way of developing acting and narrative drama skills. This fortnight students have been using their character improvisations as a starting point to create scenes for assessment. It’s been a lot of fun, and students have had lots of laughs in their learning this fortnight!

Grade 6 students engaged in their film making unit.

This fortnight students are filming their stories, making sure they used the story creation and camera use techniques they learned through the first half of the unit. We have been very impressed with our grade 5 and 6 performing artist’s hard work, creativity and collaboration in this project!
