Student Excellence Program

BioEYES! Incursion (grade 2/3 and 5/6 students):

On Friday 8th November, our Grade 2/3 and 5/6 students had a unique and captivating science experience through the BioEYES! Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series (VCES) event organised by Monash University. The program was designed to bring biology to life, engaging students in the wonders of genetics, fish biology, and developmental science.

During the BioEYES! event, students had the chance to work as real scientists, observing and conducting experiments using live zebrafish. Students tracked the development of zebrafish embryos from the initial stages of fertilisation to the growth of their tiny hearts and other visible organs. Through microscopes, our students witnessed the fascinating process of life firsthand, learning about cell division, growth, and genetics in a memorable, impactful way.

The program not only deepened their understanding of biological concepts but also inspired curiosity, critical thinking, and an appreciation for life sciences. Jonas was fascinated that zebra fish are 73% similar to humans!

Saanvi learnt that female zebra fish are fatter because they have all of the eggs in their belly. She was amazed that they carry about 300 eggs! Kyson loved that he saw larvae swimming through the microscope.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Monash University and BioEYES! for bringing such an enriching and interactive science experience to our students. Well done to all participants for their enthusiasm and outstanding efforts!
