Learning and Teaching
Year 3 and 4 Community - Australian History - How did Cook’s Endeavour voyage change Australia forever?
This term in the Year 3 and 4 Community, they have been learning about Australia’s History. Some of the key elements of their learning were:
- Knowing the key landmarks and historical parts of Australia.
- Naming key events in Australian History
- Identifying different points of view.
- Analysing artwork related to Australian History.
- Creating artwork around different key events.
Across the term, they have focused on our First Nation’s people, Captain Cook’s Journey to Australia and different explorers in Australia. They looked at artwork about specific events and analysed these in terms of bias and perspective.
Fact Files
The students researched explorers as part of reading and writing and used their data to create a fact file on an explorer of their choice. You can see some examples below.
Stamps
To share what they have learned about each aspect of the unit of work, the students have been asked to create artwork in the form of stamps. They also needed to write a blurb about what the stamp is depicting. These will be collated into a ‘stamp album’ of Australian History. Check out the examples below.
It will be great to see the final stamp album!
