Library News

Term 4 has been off to a very exciting start in our library! Here's what we've been up to:
- the library has had a BIG reshuffle. Shelves have moved. Reading tents have joined the library family, as have some nifty little bench seats. The general consensus seems to be that the changes are GREAT. It's been a big thumbs up from the kids. Poke your head in at pickup or dropoff on a Thursday or Friday and see for yourself (have a go at our weekly word puzzle on the door while you're at it - pretty impressive effort this week!).
- storytime is continuing and we're loving our clean blankets and cushions (thank you volunteers!). This is what we're reading (in case you'd like to jump ahead at home):
- Prep - Fartboy series - Adam Wallace
- 1/2 - The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe - CS Lewis
- 3/4 - Fiddleback - Elizabeth Honey
- 5/6 - Coraline - Neil Gaiman
- we're making our way through old books and re stocking shelves with new books every week. We're hoping to have a second hand book sale with the books that are coming off the shelves so watch this space. If you have time to cover a few of the new books, please send us an email and let us know at library@sayarraville.catholic.edu.au
- our whole school book Potrick the Caterpillar is off to the printer! Deputy mayor Cr Thomas will be launching the book for us at a special school assembly in November! Please order your copies by the end of this month here: https://www.sayarraville.catholic.edu.au/our-community/the-story-of-potrick
Some more library updates...
Book covering (Sticky Fingers):
We've had some lovely parent and grandparent volunteers come in to contact new library books and decodable readers. Many hands make light work and we are so grateful for their time and effort. Pop in on a Thursday or Friday if you'd like to help them or to take some books home to contact.
Story time (afternoon nap) in the Library:
Story time is becoming a regular part of each class' library time. This week our little learners sunggled up with blankets and pillows while enjoying a magical story together.
Borrowing:
Borrowing (in full force!) is happening weekly and every class is loving being able to take books home. Please remind your child to pack their library bag and library card on a Thursday and Friday so that they can bring books home. Our focus is on engagement and joy at this early stage. Please don't worry yourselves with lost books / bags / cards - these are wonderful problems to have!
Donations:
Thank you to everyone who has donated books and soft toys to the library. The donation basket is in front of the library and we are accepting the following donations:
- soft toys, dolls and figurines in good condition
- books in good condition - no early learning or preschool books please
- cushions and blankets in good condition
Can you help?
We'd love some help to keep the new additions to our library looking fresh and our books covered and clean. Please let the office know if you are willing to go on a rotating roster to wash the blankets and cushions that the children are using, or to shelve and return books.
THANK YOU for all your help and support. Keep reading!
