Social & Emotional Learning (SEL) Update
Prep:Â
In SEL last week, our Preps explored the idea of big problems vs little problems and how we can handle them in calm and kind ways. We listened to a story together and talked about what makes a problem feel âbigâ or âsmall.â To finish, we had lots of fun working in teams on the paddle pop stick building challenge  it was all about trying, sharing ideas, and celebrating creative teamwork!  Well Done to Team Jax, Max and Noah for winning the stacking challenge.Â
Â
1/2:Â
The 1/2s focused on maintaining friendships and communicating clearly when things get tricky. We started with a fun cup-stacking challenge where students had to work as a team using elastic bands but.... No hands allowed! This encouraged problem-solving, patience, and teamwork. Afterwards, each student created their own Friend Fixer Toolbox filled with strategies like âwalk away,â âapologise,â âuse your words,â and âask an adult for help.â
Â
3/4:
In SEL this week, the 3/4s explored respect and Active listening. The 3/4s focused on respect and active listening. We warmed up with the fun memory game âWhen I go to a picnic, I bringâŚâ which tested everyoneâs focus and recall. Then, students took part in a construction tower challenge using a mix of classroom materials. It wasnât about building the tallest tower, but rather the team that showed the best teamwork, communication, and listening skills. The discussions afterwards highlighted how respect and listening help teams succeed together.Â
Â
This term our Grade 5s and 6s have been seperated into cohorts so we can look at any worries/thoughts/feelings our grade 6's might have about heading to highschool in a few months time.Â
Â
Grade 5s:Â
Our Grade 5 students learned about safe media choices and how to recognise when something online might not be right for them. They played the âdeep fake vs realâ game to practise looking for AI inhanced media photos, it was trickier than they thought. We looked at the PRO'S VS CON'S of ChatGPT and discusses issues of plagiarism, creativity loss, accuracy and environmental impact that AI can have. Each student then created their own Media slogan and logo to remind them to pause and think before they post.
Â
Grade 6s:
This week, our Grade 6s focused on transition and resilience as they begin preparing for high school. Students completed an anonymous survey about whatâs worrying them for next year, which will help guide our upcoming sessions. They also wrote encouraging letters to their future Year 7 selves, sharing hopes, goals, and positive messages to read on their first day of high school next year.Â

Wellbeing and Mental Health at Our School!
Â
At our school, wellbeing and mental health are key priorities. We are proud to integrate a range of evidence-based programs and supports that foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students.
Our School Counsellor, Respectful Relationships program, Berry Street Education Model, Social & Emotional Learning (SEL), and our much-loved Therapy Dog Program are now central to our whole-school approach to student wellbeing.
These initiatives work together to help students build emotional awareness, resilience, and positive relationships, while equipping them with practical strategies to manage their mental health. Our therapy dog adds an extra layer of emotional support, creating a calm and nurturing presence that enhances connection and wellbeing across the school.
Together, these programs create a school culture where every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to thrive. Â Miss Paglianiti

Berry Street Welcome Circles â Building Connection and Routine
After our insightful staff PD with Berry Street, we have taken our new learnt knowledge back into our classrooms for the start the day with a  Welcome Circle â a powerful practice designed to foster connection, set a positive tone, and create a sense of belonging for every student. While the structure may vary slightly from class to class, the key components remain the same: greeting each other warmly, discussing our targeted values and class expectations, reviewing the dayâs schedule, and ending with a quick, positive primer game to energize and engage. These circles not only help students feel seen and valued but also set them up for a successful day of learning. Ask your child about their favourite part of the Welcome Circle â itâs a great way to stay connected to their school day!
