National Child Protection Week (NAPCAN)

Dear Families,

National Child Protection Week will be held from Sunday 7 to Saturday 13 September, 2025. This week, led by NAPCAN (National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect), reminds us that every child deserves to feel safe, supported, and cared for. It’s an opportunity for families, schools, and communities to work together to create the best possible environment for children to thrive.

For 2025, the theme  focuses on the importance of conversations in keeping children safe and well - EVERY CONVERSATION MATTERS

This year the key activities around building awareness include:

  • Awareness Campaigns: The week aims to raise awareness about child abuse prevention.

  • Community Engagement: Communities are encouraged to get involved through events and discussions.

  • Resources & Webinars: NAPCAN offers resources and webinars to educate the public and empower communities.

Not only during National Child Protection Week, but every week we must take the time to talk with our children about what makes them feel safe and who they can turn to if they ever feel worried. Simple conversations like these can help build trust and confidence.

During National Child Protection Week, our school will be highlighting the importance of children feeling safe and supported. These messages will be woven into our Wellbeing / Social Emotional Curriculum, where students learn about caring for themselves and others. We will then build on this through our Child Safety Education program and the Daniel Morcombe Curriculum (in Term 4), which gives children practical skills to recognise unsafe situations, know how to respond, and feel confident to ask for help. Together, we are helping our students grow up safe, strong, and connected.

As part of National Child Protection Week, NAPCAN is offering a series of free parent webinars designed to support families in keeping children safe and supported. We encourage all of our families to take part in these valuable sessions.

Save the Date

Thursday 11 September is R U OK? Day. R U OK? Day is about reminding everyone to check in with those around them and start a conversation that could make a difference. At school, we encourage students to be kind, supportive friends and to look out for one another. A simple question – “Are you OK?” – can open the door to connection, care, and support.
