Year 9 IMPACT Students Inspired by Professional Puppeteer

Our Year 9 IMPACT students recently had the incredible opportunity to work with the talented puppeteer Georgie Rose. Georgie, renowned for creating all the puppets for the Bluey travelling show, shared her expertise on the art of puppetry — from the technical skills involved to the creativity required to truly bring a puppet to life.

This special workshop is part of the students’ preparation for their own upcoming puppet performance, which they will present to kindergarten students during Children’s Week. We can’t wait to see the magic they create!

Year 10 IMPACT class attended their much-anticipated ARTS Camp in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD. This camp is a highlight of the IMPACT program, offering students the opportunity to immerse themselves in a variety of artistic experiences across Music, Drama, Visual Arts, and Media.

What makes this camp especially meaningful is that students are actively involved in planning the itinerary, giving them a voice in shaping their learning journey. From karaoke sessions to live theatre performances, exploring Melbourne's architectural gems and iconic institutions like the State Library, the camp was packed with enriching and memorable experiences.

A standout moment was the reenactment of Ned Kelly’s last trial in the historic Old Melbourne Gaol courtrooms. Students enthusiastically stepped into the roles of key historical figures, bringing history to life in a powerful and engaging way.

Other highlights included chocolate painting — a deliciously creative activity — and a visit to Imaginator, an immersive playground where imagination met technology in a spectacular audio-visual environment.

The ARTS Camp not only deepened students' appreciation for the arts but also fostered teamwork, creativity, and confidence. A truly unforgettable experience!

Concert Piece

NBC Students are working hard during this term, rehearsing and refining their routines for our annual concerts. The theme at Hendy and Peacock campuses is “Retro Rewind” featuring songs from the 70’s and 80’s, sure to be a hit with families and teachers alike. The students are also enjoying the “old music” and are often spotted singing the songs during their breaks. All students are perfecting their choreography and singing and are ready to bring their energy and infectious personalities to the stage. We can’t wait for you to see what they can do! Please save the dates and join us at Goldworthy Theatre for our performances.

Quotes from our budding superstars:

“I practise singing and dancing every night at home”. Yasemine

“We are doing the Rasputin song and I’m very excited for people to come see it. The most difficult part to learn has been the cossack kicks, and I love performing the chorus of the song”.  Ali

“I’m mostly looking forward to showing everyone how good we are” Paisley

"Practicing our circle formation was the hardest part”. Wyatt

“We are looking forward to the concert because all of us love dancing and singing” Dean

“I’m excited to go to Goldsworthy theatre, I think the audience will like it”. Samantha

“I love being on stage”. Layla

“My name is Ronomy. Nothing has been tricky, it’s easy for me”. Ronomy

Every NBC P-8 campus will have an upcoming Performance Day in Term 4 which will all take place in the Goldsworthy theatre:

  • Hendy: 14th Oct
  • Peacock: 15th Oct
  • Tallis: 3rd Nov
  • Wexford: 11th Dec

Be on the lookout for posters and family information that will be sent home in the coming weeks. To create a unified look, we ask that all students wear their base plain black clothing: black t-shirt and black pants/leggings/shorts, black shoes if possible (please no colour or logo on the items). Please see the Performing Arts team if you need assistance with these items.

Visual Arts

In Visual Arts across all campuses and year levels, we have been exploring our identity and creating self-portraits inspired by the Archibald Prize. Students have had the autonomy to create their self-portraits using a variety of media. Some students have also drawn or painted portraits of others that inspire them.

There has been a variety of artwork created across different year levels. Students are really excited to share their artwork with the community at our annual Art Show, held at Goldsworthy in Term 4.

Year 7/8 students that have been involved in Visual Arts this year are also extremely proud of their construction unit, where they have completed the design process to create realistic Wayne Thiebaud inspired desserts and clay vessels.
