Engagement, Wellbeing and Inclusion

Wellbeing, Engagement and Inclusion at Bemin
This term has been full of exciting initiatives across our Wellbeing, Engagement and Inclusion space. We are very pleased to officially welcome Renee Dowling to the Wellbeing Team. Renee has been leading the team and supporting the wonderful programs already in place, ensuring that students across both campuses feel safe, connected, and supported.
A range of groups have been running throughout the term, with fantastic participation from students. These include Boardgames Club, Chillout Zone, and Breakfast Club, which continue to be a highlight of the week for many. Looking ahead, we are thrilled to announce that a Lego Club will be launching in Term 4 – providing another fun and creative opportunity for students to connect with each other.
Earlier this term, Brainstorm Productions visited and delivered powerful performances for our Year 7 and 8 students. The performance explored themes of resilience, respectful relationships and decision-making, giving our students plenty to reflect on in relation to their own lives.
The Flipside’, an acted-out play by Brainstorm Productions was a fun and educational event that made us think about some of the most relevant issues teenagers face in today's day and age: cybersecurity, cyberbullying and personal responsibility. The play was about a teenage boy who was being blackmailed by someone. Throughout the story, he discovers that everything was really consequences of his own actions. It was a combination of meaning, humour and the challenge of emotions we feel everyday, ranging from themes of cybersecurity to morality and ethics. My favourite part was when the boy asked Artificial Intelligence to define the word “troll” and it came up with a fishing method, a systematic way of searching, and the fictional creatures in the movie ‘Trolls’. It was funny, while it also highlighted the importance of context when communicating with AI. Altogether, it was a beautiful and relevant story that really helped us all learn about the importance of cybersecurity and understanding right from wrong. Ishmay Year 8
R U OK? Day
Last week, we celebrated R U OK? Day, an important reminder to check in with those around us. It was heartening to see both students and staff actively engaging in conversations, supporting one another, and promoting the message that “a conversation could change a life.” The day culminated with a BBQ on both campuses, creating a warm and welcoming space for our community to come together and share a snag.
From a staff perspective, we have also continued to explore School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS). Over the past 8 weeks, a small group of staff have been trialling our draft SWPBS Matrix, Behaviour Continuum, and Major/Minor Behaviour processes. These important tools provide clarity and consistency in how we support positive behaviour across the school. Following this trial, the SWPBS framework will be rolled out to all staff in Term 4, marking an exciting step forward in strengthening a positive and inclusive culture at Bemin.
Together, these initiatives highlight our ongoing commitment to the wellbeing, engagement and inclusion of every student, ensuring that our school continues to be a place where all young people feel safe, respected and supported to achieve their best.
