Sub-School Leader Reflection on Term 3

As we come to the end of Term 3, as a team, we have taken some time to reflect on what a wonderful term it has been. Across the school, our students have shown great resilience, dedication, and a genuine enthusiasm for learning. Whether in the classroom, on the sporting field, in creative pursuits, or through acts of kindness and leadership, each student has contributed to making this term a truly special one. They have demonstrated the college values with great pride and it has been exciting to see our students embrace challenges, set high expectations and celebrate individual and collective achievements across the cohort.

Campus Captain's speech - Wins for term 3!

As Term 3 comes to an end, it’s the perfect moment to look back at all the things we’ve achieved together and the memories we’ve created along the way.

We began the term with Athletics Day, which set the tone for everything that followed. It was a day full of energy, courage, and school spirit — whether you were racing down the track, jumping your hardest, or cheering loudly for your friends. Everyone contributed to making it such a special start.

From there, we moved into Inter-school sports, where our teams represented our school with pride and teamwork. No matter the results, the effort and determination shown by everyone was something to be proud of. And of course, the AFL clinic gave us a chance to try new skills, step out of our comfort zones, and just have fun learning something new.

But Term 3 wasn’t just about sport. Science Week encouraged us to experiment, question, and explore, reminding us of the excitement that comes with curiosity and discovery. Then came Book Week, which reminded us how powerful stories are.

This term also gave us the chance to shine in competitions like the Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee, and the Great Bemin Speak Off, where students showed amazing confidence and talent. And one of the biggest highlights was the Student Leadership Forum, where us as  leaders had the opportunity to represent our school, share ideas, and learn alongside other student leaders.

When we look back, Term 3 wasn’t just about events on a calendar — it was about growth. It was about teamwork, friendships, creativity, and the courage to give things a go. Each of us has achieved something, whether big or small, and together we’ve made this term a success.

As we head into Term 4, let’s carry that same spirit forward. Let’s continue to encourage one another, work hard, and make the final term of the year our best yet. Thank you to our teachers, staff, and every single student who made Term 3 so memorable.

Victorian State Schools Spectacular

On Saturday 13th September, 15 students from Bemin Secondary College had the incredible opportunity to perform in the Victorian State Schools Spectacular at John Cain Arena. This annual event brings together thousands of students from across Victoria to showcase their creative talents, and our students were part of the Mass Dance cast. The cast showed courage, dedication and enthusiasm and it was a true joy to see them shine on the arena stage and represent our college with pride. A huge congratulations to the cast!

The performance will be broadcast on Channel 7 later this year. We look forward to sharing the air date with families so you can celebrate the achievements of our students.

Book Week

Book week is a celebration in  schools where people can dress up and cosplay  as their favorite characters in books  or someone from a comic you enjoy .For book week we had a number of competitions like the book spine poetry competition, where, using the titles on a book's spine, we stack them to make a heartfelt poem. The book cover competition is where you can redesign your favourite book's cover with what you think it should be. Throughout the week, there were plenty of other things like mystery books. And we also got to take photos. For example Me & my friends dressed up as Alvin & the Chipmunks but with a fun twist instead of the iconic trio we had  four people dress up as the Chipmunks. One person as Simon, One as Alvin & two as Theodore . Theodore junior & Senior!

Science Week

Science week was a week full of fun, excitement and daily riddles to solve. It ran from August 11 to August 15. Each day students were given a riddle to solve in the morning, which helped you find the location of the puzzle. The puzzle was put up at lunchtime at that specific location. The activities were all STEM based and they required us to think outside the box. If you were able to get the answer correct before lunch ends, you received a raffle ticket which will go to the draw at the end of the week.

The winners received prizes such as Science vouchers, books and puzzles that will help them understand the concepts of Science better. We had a great time working with our teams and developing new skills through the experience. We look forward to having this opportunity again.

Great Bemin Speak-Off

The Great Bemin Speak-Off was planned for a few weeks before starting. Its concept was simple yet effective: it was a competition for students to come up and talk about a desired subject they picked and talk in front of a crowd who decided to do something unique and different with their break time. 2 people per class come up to speak from 2 classes each time. After their speech, the assessors (a group of teachers) assessed them and picked a winner. The winner of the whole tournament will receive a free pizza lunch for their whole class. Now to Sahashra and Anuhya to talk about the speak-off in more detail.

MC and Awards. During the competition, each competitor had their own personalized awards. Based on different categories, each person received an award based on what they did best when presenting their speech. Some of these categories included Most Passionate, Most Audience interaction, and Most Humorous.

It has been a fantastic time seeing students from the Junior School take part in the ‘Great Bemin Speak-Off.’ There have been four rounds with the different year 7 classes, each person telling us something unique, something that mattered and something they are passionate about. The contestants talked about issues like ‘college should be free’, morality, pollution, climate change, animals, and best of all, their passion!

The Grand Final will happen next term in Week One. Then the Year 8 contestants can go on the stage and speak about their passion.

A speech isn’t just about going up there and speaking, it’s about expressing your thoughts and opinions. Here is a quote from John Ford about that speaking is not about being perfect, it’s about delivering a message and connecting with the audience.

“You can speak well if your tongue can deliver the message of your heart.”- John Ford.

We all can’t wait for the Year 7 Grand Final, featuring Chenul, Amish, Amitoj and Kalyan. We are also looking forward to the start of the Year 8 competition!
