Prep News

Term 3, Week 8

What we've been up to in Prep!

Ballarat Wildlife Park

What a fabulous day we had on our excursion to the Ballarat Wildlife Park! The Preps had a wonderful time seeing all of the animals and feeding the kangaroos.

Maths

We have been loving practising descriptive language by playing 'Hide and Seek'. We both start with the same amount of  blocks, in the same colour. Then one person builds something without their partner seeing. They then describe it to their partner so that they can follow the instructions and build the same thing.

Upcoming Dates

Friday 12th September: Footy Colours Day

Friday 19th September: Last day of Term 3, 2.15pm finish

Holiday Activities

To continue your child's learning over the holidays and give them the best start to Term 4 you can:

  • continue to get your child to practise their readers every day
  • practise reading and writing the Heart Words we have learnt this year (see below and in your child's Reading Log Book for the ones they need to learn specifically)

  • practise writing sentences using a capital letter at the beginning, a full stop at the end, and finger spaces in between each word. Make the sentences more exciting by including information such as 'when?' 'where?' 'doing what?'
  • practise counting from 1-20 and 20-1
  • practise the ways to make each number to 20, such as 14= 10 and 4, 7 and 7, 12 and 2 etc
  • practise recognising the number before and the number after for each number to 20
  • practise automatically recognising each numeral to 20
  • practise adding groups of objects together
  • practise sharing objects evenly into groups.
