SSV State Soccer Final
Well done to our Girls Soccer team who represented the school last week at the SSV Primary Girls State Soccer Final in Melbourne. As expected, the standard of soccer was excellent and our girls were very competitive in all of their games. They had an amazing win against St Josephs PS (Cobram) and 2 losses to Ballarat Grammar and St Francis (Mill Park). As a result, our girls finished the 6th best team in the State. Brilliant effort, girls!
By far the highlight of the day (in what would go down as one of the schools finest sporting achievements), the girls were presented with the SSV ‘Spirit of Sport’ Award. This award is presented at each State Final to the team that exemplifies the best of sportspersonship, respect for opponents/officials, love of the sport and fair play. This is an outstanding accomplishment, and one the whole school community is extremely proud of.
I would like to commend all of the players for the way they conducted themselves throughout the entire journey – from Division through to State level. Given that most of the girls do not usually play competitive soccer, this is an outstanding achievement. I would sincerely like to thank Michelle ‘Billsy’ Maher for coaching the girls and preparing them so well for each tournament. The girls have certainly learnt a lot in a short period of time. I would also like to thank the family members who have supported the girls every step of the way.
Sandhurst Division Basketball
Congratulations to our BOYS and GIRLS basketball teams who represented the school at the Sandhurst Division Championships last week. Both teams were very competitive and displayed great teamwork throughout the day in what proved to be a particularly strong standard of competition.
The BOYS team had a very successful day, winning all 6 of their Round Robin games and making it through to the semi-final. In a thrilling final that went into overtime, our boys were eventually overtaken by St Killian’s. A huge thank-you to Mr Greer for coaching this team on the day.
Like the boys, our GIRLS team also had an extremely successful day. They also won 6 of their 7 games, with their only loss coming to Quarry Hill PS by 2 points. One of their best wins came against the tournament favourites and previously undefeated St Teresa’s. This was a fantastic effort given the standard of competition. I would sincerely like to thanks Dean Hargreaves-Peita for the fantastic job he did coaching the team.
I would like to commend the players for their behaviour, sportsmanship and determination throughout the day.

It is an opportunity for Deaf people to celebrate their communities, language, culture and history, make the public aware of their local, state and national Deaf communities, and to recognise their achievements!
