Library Matters

A celebration of reading and literacy at PSC
What a fantastic couple of weeks it has been in the library! From the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge to the Rip Roaring Reading Challenge, students at Pakenham Secondary College have been absolutely smashing their reading goals and we could not be more proud!
To celebrate the outstanding achievements of all our readers, everyone who took part in both challenges was invited to a fabulous Pizza Party this week in the library. The event was an exciting way to reward all those who committed to reading and expanding their imaginations.
From the 1st until the 5th September, we also celebrated our very own Literacy, Numeracy and Book Week. We had an amazing lineup of activities designed to bring our love of reading and learning to life. One of the highlights was the Staff Literary Character Dress-Up, where teachers and staff got creative, donning costumes from their favourite literary characters. The students were the judges and ‘The Draculas’ (Mr Bhandari and Ms Reynolds) were crowned winners!
One of the standout activities this year was the “Where Did a Book Take You?” challenge, expertly organised by our fabulous librarians. Students were invited to share their favourite book journeys- whether it was an adventure, a fantasy world, or a heartfelt journey of self-discovery. It was incredible to read so many of our students’ personal reflections on how books have shaped their experiences. The diversity of stories and the enthusiasm with which they took part in this activity was truly inspiring. Books have a magical way of transporting us, and our students’ responses proved just how powerful reading can be in shaping our lives and imaginations.
Alongside the costume fun, our teaching staff also shared excerpts from their favourite novels with the students - on "Where did a book take your teacher?" It was heartwarming to hear so many wonderful stories being brought to life in the library, inspiring students to explore new authors and genres.
A huge thank you to everyone who participated, supported and helped make these events such a success. Whether it was reading, or sharing stories, we have loved seeing our school come together in celebration of literacy and the joy of books. We can’t wait to continue the reading adventure with all of you!
Congratulations to our outstanding readers!
We are thrilled to recognise the students who earned certificates for completing the Premiers’ Reading Challenge and/or the Rip Roaring Reading Challenge. Your dedication to reading and learning is inspiring - well done!
