Learning and Teaching

Building Strong Partnerships: School and Home Working Together

At St Joseph’s we believe that learning is most powerful when it is a shared journey between school and home. The partnership between families and teachers plays a vital role in supporting every child’s growth and success.

When parents and carers are actively engaged in their child’s learning, it not only strengthens academic achievement but also builds confidence, motivation, and a love of learning. Simple actions, such as talking about the school day, reading together, celebrating effort, and showing curiosity about what children are learning, help reinforce the important message that education matters.

Teachers bring expertise in curriculum and teaching strategies, while families provide the essential knowledge of their child’s strengths, interests, and needs. When these insights come together, students benefit from a consistent message of encouragement and high expectations, both at school and at home.

We value the trust and collaboration we share with our families. Together, we create a learning community where students feel supported, inspired, and ready to achieve their best.

St Joseph's Expectations: The 3 B’s

At St Joseph's we believe that every student has the right to learn and every teacher has the right to teach in a safe and respectful environment. To help guide us, we follow our three simple but powerful expectations – the 3 Bs:

  • Be Respectful – We show kindness, use good manners, listen to others, and care for our school environment.
  • Be a Learner – We try our best, stay curious, and take on challenges with a positive attitude and growth mindset.
  • Be Safe – We make choices that keep ourselves and others safe, both in the classroom and in the playground.

These expectations are taught, modelled, and celebrated across all year levels, so that students understand what they look like in different settings. The 3 Bs help create a positive, supportive school culture where everyone can thrive.

We encourage families to talk about the 3 Bs at home, so that together we can reinforce these shared values and support our students in becoming respectful, safe, and active learners.

As we begin Term Four, we are reminded of the importance of working together to support every child’s learning journey. By strengthening this partnership and continuing to live out our school expectations of Being Respectful, Being Safe, and Being a Learner, we can ensure that our students finish the year with confidence, growth, and a strong sense of belonging.

We look forward to a positive and productive term ahead, with the support of our families and the commitment of our staff.

Kind regards
