Year 5/6 - Newsletter

Year 5/6 Newsletter – Week 9, Term 3
Dear Parents and Carers,
And that’s the end of Term 3! This year is certainly flying by. Students have finished the term strongly with an amazing effort at our Country Expo, as well as enjoying Footy Day and proudly participating in the Students vs Teachers Volleyball game. Below is a snapshot of what has been happening across the 5/6 cohort over the past two weeks, along with some reminders for Term 4.
Literacy
In Literacy, students have completed their information reports on the country they presented to their class earlier this term and at our Expo in Week 9. It has been fantastic to see them apply the knowledge and skills they developed while exploring the transportation of convicts to Australia to a new context. Their reports have been full of interesting facts about countries from all around the world.
Mathematics
Students have been busy finalising our Multiplicative Thinking unit in Maths and demonstrating their learning in end-of-term assessments. They have done an excellent job representing their thinking and applying their skills to a variety of real-life problems. Our Daily 5 retrieval practice has also shown how well students are retaining what they’ve learnt, both this term and across the school year.
Inquiry
Part 2 of our Inquiry project, the Country Expo, took place in Week 9—and what a success it was! We were so impressed by the creativity and hard work that went into each display. It was wonderful to see staff, leadership, and peers enjoying the amazing presentations of countries from across the globe.
Health – Sexual Education Program
In Weeks 7, 8, and 9, students participated in the Sexual Education program. The presenters were impressed by how maturely and thoughtfully our 5/6 cohort engaged with the sessions.
Inter-School Sport
Well done to all of our Inter-School Sport teams! Students thoroughly enjoy being part of this program. Congratulations to the Girls Volleyball team, who were premiers and will progress to the division finals. Students from the Term 2 Tennis team will also finally get their chance to play in their division finals in Term 4. Further information about other teams that finished as runners-up will be shared next term.
