Year 3/4 - Newsletter

Dear Parents and carers,

It is unbelievable to think that we are already at the very end of Term 3 and what a wonderful term it has been. Some of our Term 3 highlights include: Athletics, Edendale Farm Excursion, Book Week, HoopTime, Footy Day and the recent Nesting Box design and construction.

Term 4 is a no hat, no play term. Please check with your child to ensure they have a school type broad brimmed hat to wear when outdoors. We also recommend applying sunscreen each morning. We have sunscreen available in our classrooms.

Australian STEM Video Game Challenge

This term, a group of eight enthusiastic Year 3/4 students took part in the Australian STEM Video Game Challenge, an exciting national competition where students design and build their own digital games. Working collaboratively, the team explored coding, game design, art, and sound to bring their creative ideas to life. While they didn’t win this year, the students did an amazing job and should be very proud of what they achieved. We would like to congratulate Amara Lipinski, Sam Nicholson, Samuel Jeevan, Liam Twaits, Maxwell Leech, Maximus Robinson, Steven Baker & Clara Steegstra on their fantastic efforts and commitment throughout the program. A special thank you goes to parent helper Steve Nicholson, whose dedication and expertise were central to running the program!

What's happened in 3/4 this fortnight?

English – To finalise our novel study, students watched Storm Boy. They then applied the writing model taught during this unit to plan and create information reports on Australian animals. This process helped them organise their ideas, use topic-specific vocabulary, and present their research clearly.

Next term the students will begin a new novel study on The Wild Robot.

Maths – Students have completed their units on multiplication, division, and their connection with area. Through hands-on activities and problem-solving tasks, they strengthened their number skills and explored how these operations link to real-world concepts in measurement.

Inquiry - Students completed their nesting box design for their chosen animal. They built and decorated their box using cardboard and recycled materials. Students carefully measured the size of the box and entrances to make sure their animal can fit, they added ledges, climbing ladders and natural materials to make it a welcoming habitat.

This week students reflected on the design and construction of their nesting boxes. We hope you were able to see what your child had produced. We were super impressed with each individual's designs and construction/decorations.

Friendology/Wellbeing - As part of R U OK? Day, students learned about the four steps of starting an R U OK? conversation and the importance of really listening to the other person throughout. These discussions helped build awareness of how we can support each other’s wellbeing.

Headphones Reminder

We have noticed a number of students do not have working headphones at school. Please check with your child to see if they need a new pair so they are ready for learning activities that require them.
