Year 9 News

As we approach the end of Term 3, it’s been fantastic to see our Year 9 students continuing to demonstrate dedication, resilience, and curiosity in their learning. Our recent learning behaviour updates show many students actively engaging in class, collaborating with peers, and taking responsibility for their own progress—well done to all for their efforts!
We also encourage parents to attend the upcoming Parent-Teacher Conversations. These sessions are a great opportunity to celebrate your child’s achievements, discuss their learning goals, and strengthen the partnership between home and school.
Looking ahead, there’s plenty to get excited about! Term 4 kicks off with our Year 9 Camp in the first week, where students will have the chance to challenge themselves, build strong connections, and create lasting memories with their peers.

All students are required to submit their food preferences via the Microsoft Form on their Year 9 Camp Team.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the camp, please don’t hesitate to send us an email. We’re looking forward to an action-packed week full of learning, adventure, and fun!
Gippsland Tech School
Last week, our Year 9 students visited the Gippsland Tech School to take part in an engaging, hands-on program exploring design elements and coding with LEGO Mindstorms.
The day began with students attending a series of masterclasses where they developed essential skills in coding and design. They then applied their learning in the exciting LEGO Sumo Challenge. In this challenge, students designed and coded their own robots to compete in sumo-style battles. After each round, they evaluated their robot’s performance and used their reflections to refine and improve their designs, repeating the process until they created the ultimate LEGO Sumo robot.
As told by Rahni Mrzygloski (9B):
"We learnt how to program, construct and improve robots in partners. We also made books to show our progress. It was a very fun excursion that helped us learn the challenges of design".
The program provided a fantastic opportunity for students to strengthen their problem-solving and coding skills while learning the importance of design iteration. It was a fun, interactive, and challenging experience that left students motivated and inspired.

Kurnai Racing Team Update
Recently, the YR 9/10 Human Powered Vehicle teams took part in a practice event ahead of this year’s Energy Breakthrough.
The day wasn’t without its challenges – including a full bike rebuild – but our students showed incredible resilience and teamwork. With determination and problem-solving skills on display, they managed to get both bikes back on the track and racing.
These moments highlight exactly what the program is all about: teamwork, persistence, and learning through real-world challenges.
We’re proud of how far the team has come and even more excited about what’s ahead.
The Kurnai Racing Team is looking to be in great shape for the big event – bring on the Energy Breakthrough 2025!
